Obituary - Phyllis Paluch

A graveside service and inurnment for Phyllis Paluch will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2026 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri. No visitation. Phyllis Ann Paluch, age 86 of Independence, Missouri passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at the Rehabilitation Center of Independence with her loving granddaughter Rebecca and husband Daniel by her side. She was born May 7, 1940 to Elmer and Ethel O’Neil Pommier in Greenbay, Wisconsin.

Phyllis was small in stature, but her love for her family made her a giant. She once said “We love each other the best we can” and she definitely did.

Phyllis is survived by one son, Robert Paluch (Rhonda); daughter, Tina Sheets (Clyde); three granddaughters, Candice Averett (Jordan), Rebecca Lininger (Daniel) and Carrie Paluch; great-grandkids, Frankie, Ellis, Griffin, Janean, Leanna and JJ; and one sister, Linda Pommier. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Dale; son, Richard Paluch; and two granddaughters, Lyndsey Paluch and Jessica Holt.

Missouri Department of Agriculture Awards Funding for Spay and Neuter Programs

Department awards $26,000 in grant funding

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – On September 21st, the Missouri Department of Agriculture Animal Care Facilities Act (ACFA) Program announces recipients of spay and neuter grants. Grant funds are awarded to eligible organizations that provide low-cost spaying and/or neutering of dogs and cats for individuals who could not normally afford the services.

Donations from the sale of “I’m Pet Friendly” specialty license plates generate the grant money awarded to Missouri organizations. The goal of the “I’m Pet Friendly” fund is to provide grants to nonprofit organizations or governmental agencies to enable spaying and neutering of dogs and cats. Grants are distributed to selected agencies for their efforts through local and regional spay and neuter initiatives.

To donate to the grant program and obtain an emblem use authorization for specialty plates, visit the Missouri State Humane Association website. Upon obtaining an emblem use authorization, contact the Missouri Department of Revenue to renew or change your plates.

Obituary - Georgianna Smith

Georgianna Smith, age 101 of El Dorado Springs, Missouri passed away September 22, 2026 at Community Springs Healthcare Facility in El Dorado Springs. Georgianna was born April 1, 1925 in Amoret, Missouri to Holly and Zula (Collins) Pahlman.

Georgianna, one of three children, grew up on a farm in Virginia, Missouri. She attended Butler High School in Butler, Missouri and graduated in 1943. Georgianna also lived in Carthage, Springfield and El Dorado Springs, Missouri. She married Charles E. Smith on August 21, 1947 in Butler and to this union, one daughter was born–Sherry (Smith) Gilbert.

Georgianna’s work background was very extensive and diverse, including employment in the banking industry in Butler and working in the Carthage School District. She also had an extended work history with General Electric in Springfield, Missouri where they lived for greater than 40 years before moving to the El Dorado Springs area. In the late 1950s, Georgianna and Charles ran Camp Galilee for a time–then opened Spring Dinner House, a restaurant that was located where the now El Dorado Springs Municipal Swimming Pool sits.

Georgianna is survived by her son-in-law, Dennis Gilbert of El Dorado Springs, Missouri; granddaughter, Shelley and Chuck Johnson of El Dorado Springs, Missouri; grandson, Chris Gilbert of Lawerence, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Blake and Breann (Steven) all of El Dorado Springs, Missouri and Chasdity (Jessy) Coonce of Rich Hill, Missouri; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Survivors also include many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were both parents; three sisters, Hazel, Betty and Dorthy; husband, Charles; and daughter, Sherry Gilbert.
