Police chase ends in Bates County overnight

A driver who left the scene of an accident in Cass County led to a police chase that ended in eastern Bates County around midnight last night. The driver, name unknown, allegedly rear ended another vehicle north of Archie and sped away southbound into Bates County where the Highway Patrol pursuit was joined by Bates County sheriff's deputies.

The chase, which encountered speeds up to 80+ mph, turned onto D highway east of Passaic where it eventually ended near Z highway.

No injuries were reported- however, another vehicle that mistakenly ran over a spike strip required assistance near the Adrian overpass.

Queen and Princess to be crowned next weekend...

Bates County Fair Queen and Princess Candidates have been selling Fair Shares and Raffle Tickets for the upcoming fair as they compete for the title of Bates County Fair Queen and Princess title. The 2012 Bates County Fair Queen candidates are Krista Carter, 19 of Butler, daughter of Robin and Dorothy Carter, sponsored by the 4-Star 4-H; and Stacy Lerosen, 16 of Adrian, daughter of John and Kim Thomas and is sponsored by the Adrian FFA. 

The Bates County Princess candidate is Bethanie Cole, age 15, of Butler. She is the daughter of Don and Debbie Cole and is sponsored by V-52 4-H and the Ballard Grille. 

The 2012 Bates County Fair Queen and Princess will be crowned during the Mini Rod Pull Saturday night July 14th.

Missing boy found

Local authorities initiated a search this morning for a four year old boy who wandered away from home in Adrian but he was later found unharmed.

The search parties included the Adrian fire and police departments, and others from Butler and Cass county were in route when the boy was found.

The boy, who has speech and hearing impairments, was returned to his family around 9 a.m.

VBS coming to Calvary Baptist Church in Adrian

Hey kids, ages 4 years through 6th grade, the Calvary Baptist Church, located at 100 S. Mulberry Street in Adrian, is having a special summer event! Beginning Monday through Friday, July 16th to July 20th, from 9 AM – 11:45 AM, we will be enjoying a week of Vacation Bible School with the theme, “Bug Zone, Transformed by Our Big God!” and you are invited to come!

There will be Bible story time, singing fun songs, puppets, creative crafts, exciting games, delicious snacks, daily contest challenges and you definitely want to meet Dr. Buzz, our special guest each day!

On Saturday, July 14th from 10 AM to Noon, we will have a time of pre-registration at the church. Come early and get ready for a great week of summer fun at Vacation Bible School! If you come for the pre-registration, you will earn an extra 1,000 points, a special prize, enjoy a cool, refreshing slush, and watch the puppets. You will also get a glow in the dark bug that if you bring that back on the first day of Bible School you will get an additional 500 points! If it’s not too hot there will be pony rides too!
