Motor vehicle accident - 6:24 p.m.

The Bates County Sheriff's Department, Missouri Highway Patrol and Butler fire department responded to motor vehicle accident on west 52 highway at the Steel and King curve at K Highway. The Sheriff's Department reports that a truck left the roadway and struck a fence. There are no injuries.

A quiet weekend

The Bates County Sheriff's Department and Bates County EMS report a fairly quiet Holiday weekend around the area. There were various reports of minor fireworks injuries and a few reports of vandalism, but the weekend has been deemed to be safe and quiet overall.

Man injured in fireworks accident

Saturday night a man was injured during a fireworks display at the Virginia United Methodist Church west of Butler. He was reportedly flown to a Kansas City hospital for treatment for lacerations and possible bone fracture as he was struck by in the face by a firework that had fallen over. Bates County EMS, Butler Fire Department and the Bates County Sheriff's Department responded to the call.

Car fire - Rich Hill

Rich Hill Fire Department is responding to a reported car fire at 3rd and Walnut. No other information is available at this time.

Cancellation of activities

The Adrian Optimists have announced that due to rain, tonight's tractor pull and fireworks display have been canceled. Bates County Live will immediately post the reschedule date as soon as that information becomes available.

Fatality in earlier reported accident

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Sonya Richter, 43, of Adrian was pronounced dead at 3:15 a.m. by Bates County Coroner Gary Schowengert from injuries sustained in an accident involving a tractor trailer and the vehicle Richter was a passenger in. Donald Richter, 33, was taken to a Kansas City hospital via Life Flight Helicopter. The truck driver Simon Worrel, 41, of Dover, Arkansas was treated and released at the scene. The accident occurred at 71 highway and route AA north of Adrian as the Richter vehicle was transitioning eastbound across 71 and was struck in the side by the northbound tractor trailer. This accident marks the 27th traffic fatality reported by MSHP this year.

A damp 4th?



As celebrations continue this evening through tomorrow, a lingering chance of rain remains. Although current radar shows a large area of rain to the south, at this time it is moving east, taking it away from the Bates County Area. However, a 50% chance of rain remains for our area through tomorrow.
