Area burglaries under investigation

Burglars have struck along county road 9002 east of Amsterdam and have hit a least two residences, according to reports filed by the Bates County Sheriff's Department. It appears that at least one of the thefts occurred during daytime hours while the homeowner was away; a substantial amount of items was reported missing.

In a possible related incident, a homeowner approximately 6 miles northwest of Passaic reports that a man entered her home while she was there and appeared confused, asking for directions. It is thought that the man was casing the residence and was surprised the homeowner was there. The man left in an unknown direction of travel.

Drexel motorcycle rider escapes serious injury

Carl P. Otto, 47, Drexel sustained minor injuries when he lost control of his motorcycle yesterday while rounding a curve on Y Highway just north of county road 10002 near Amsterdam. According to the  Missouri Highway Patrol report, the motorcycle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment around 5:30 in the evening, ejecting the rider. The investigation continues; charges are pending at this time.
