Structure fire near Rich Hill

Rich Hill and Butler Fire Departments are on the scene of a residential structure fire near YY Highway northeast of Rich Hill in the Seven Bridges area. Initial reports are the home is fully involved in fire; the same location was the scene of a domestic disturbance earlier today. More information will be published as it is made available.

Obituary - Mary Ellen Eveland

Mary Ellen (Jenkins) Eveland, 96 of Prescott Valley, AZ, formerly of Adrian, MO, died Sunday, September 5, 2010 at her home. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the Atkinson Chapel in Adrian with visitation from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian.

Details on earlier reported accident

Larry R. Fisher, 47, of Archie sustained moderate injuries when his 2007 Chevrolet crossed the center line of the northbound lanes of 71 Highway just north of Passaic and struck the passenger side of a 1994 Peterbuilt (also northbound) driven by Leon D. Berry, 46, of Rich Hill. The Fisher vehicle continued across the median, across the southbound lanes, struck a ditch, a utility pole and came to a rest on a fence. The vehicle had extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene, while the Berry vehicle had minor damage and was driven from the scene. Fisher was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment; Berry was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Charges are pending at this time.

Obituary - Mervin E. Aurand

Mervin "Bud" E. Aurand, 79 of Adrian, MO died Sunday, September 5, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2010 at the Atkinson Chapel in Adrian. Visitation 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 9 at the chapel. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery in Drexel, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Susan G. Komen For the Cure, P.O. Box 413247, Kansas City, MO 64141.

Vandalism and burglary reported near Montrose

On Saturday, September 4th, Bates County Sheriff's Deputies took a burglary and theft report from R.R. 3 Montrose. The residence was in foreclosure and several items were disassembled and stolen from the residence. Items that were disassembled and stolen were kitchen cabinets, flooring, electrical panel containing breakers, electrical boxes, wood stove, 2 window air conditioners, 2 televisions, a Gateway brand flat LCD monitor, microwave, 1986 Honda 4trax ATV, Murray 38" cut riding lawn mower, water heater, small tool box containing an assortment of wrenches and sockets, tattoo equipment, a jewelry box containing an assortment of jewelry, and a large assortment of clothing. 


Anyone with information regarding the location of items or persons connected to this crime are urged to contact the Bates County Sheriff's Department at 660-679-3232.
