Accident north of Butler
6:53 pm-Butler Fire Rescue and police are responding to a an accident on business 71 highway, just north of TT highway. No further information is available.

Races canceled for tonight
Bates County Live has been informed that the scheduled races for tonight at the Butler Motor Speedway have been canceled due to muddy conditions. The races are rescheduled for Sunday.
52 East exit now open
No more taking the 'long way around' or the 'scenic route' to gain access to 52 Highway east from 71 Highway. Aside of a little grass and clean up, the new project is finished.

Butler woman injured in crash
Just after 5 am this morning Allison L. Reitz, 24, of Butler received minor injuries in an accident on Route D, .3 miles east of 71 Highway. According the the report, her 2007 Pontiac ran off the left side of the roadway, struck a mailbox, returned to the roadway and traveled off the right side of the road into the ditch. The vehicle then returned to the roadway and came to a rest facing northeast. Reitz was transported to the Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment. The vehicle received extensive damage and was towed from the scene.

McGennis Youth Center BBQ coming up
Mark your calendar for Sunday, September 26th for the 41st Annual McGennis Youth Center BBQ and all day events which include children's games, a pumpkin roll, horse and buggy rides and more. Lunch starts at 1 pm with a full compliment of beef, pork, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, bread and drinks. Live music will be played during lunch, featuring local musicians.
The auction starts after lunch and items on the block will include crafts, collectibles, Youth Center ball caps and more. The ball caps will be numbered and a number drawn later will win a .22 rifle donated by Bell Farms.
The meal is $8 for adults and children under 10 free with parents. The McGennis Youth Center is located five miles west of Rich Hill on A Highway and four miles south on WW Highway. For more information about the auction or to donate, call 417-395-2275 (days) or 417-395-4888 (evenings).
