Obituary - Aubrey Kenneth Hartsell


Aubrey Kenneth Hartsell 89, of Stockton, MO passed away October 7, 2010 at his home. He was born November 29, 1920 in Adrian, MO the son of George Washington and Bertha Lorene (Graves) Hartsell. A visitation will be held at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian from 3:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, October 10, 2010. A private burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, MO.

Aubrey attended school in New Home, MO. He worked as a farmhand on a family farm at Amsterdam, MO from 1937 to 1942. In November 1942 he joined the United States Army. He served in a tank battalion as crew member and commander during WWII. He served 16 months in France, Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia. After leaving the military in January 1946 he was a truck driver and farmer. He was married to Pearlie Mae (Bass) Hartsell for 40 years. After he retired he loved to fish and pick up pecans.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, David W. Hartsell, Raymond Hartsell, Walter D. Hartsell and Robert Leon Hartsell; and three sisters, Mary K. Leuty, Clara Belle Martin and Blanche M. Chamberlain. He is survived by his wife, Pearlie Mae of Stockton, MO; one brother, George LeRoy Hartsell and his wife, Lois, of Archie, MO; two step-daughters, Ann Aliey and her husband of Stockton, MO and Sue Carey and her husband of Kansas City, MO; and many nephews and nieces.

Food Pantry Benefit Concert this Sunday


The Bates County Nostalgia Band will present its fourth annual Food Pantry Benefit Concert on Sunday, October 10, 3:00 PM, at the Bandstand on the Square.  This will be the band's final performance of 2010.  Come out and enjoy the fine fall weather and make a much-needed contribution to the Community Food Pantry of Butler.  In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the Butler Presbyterian Church.

Obituary - Steve Cowley

Funeral services for Steve Cowley will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Pastor Ron Dunlap officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Contributions to Steve Cowley Memorial Fund.
Steve Thomas Cowley, age 48 of Butler, Missouri died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 near Papinville, Missouri as the result of a tree trimming accident. He was born August 12, 1962 to Charles Martin and Wilma May Craven Cowley in Kansas City, Missouri.


Steve is survived by his daughter, Crystal Bolejack and husband Chris of SanClemente, California; his parents, Wilma and Charles Martin Cowley of Butler, Missouri; two stepsons, Matthew Cason and wife Lina of Belton, Missouri and Jason Weeks and wife Danielle of Peculiar, Missouri; his companion, Valerie Miller of Butler, Missouri; one brother, Tim Cowley and wife Dorinda of Rich Hill, Missouri; one sister, Janice Nieder and husband James of Rich Hill, Missouri; three step-grandchildren, Hudson, Arianna and Landon; and one granddaughter due on November 10, 2010 Addison Bolejack.

A boil order has been issued for Bates County PWSD #6 customers to include an area South of 52 Highway, between N and YY Highways.

Chili Cook Off coming October 29th

Think your chili is the best? Find out by joining the 7th Annual Chili Cook Off sponsored by the Butler Ladies Ministries on October 29. Get your team together and register as soon as possible. Fees are $15 for each recipe- for more info call Barbara Lawrence at 660-679-4212. The chili cook off will be held in conjunction with the Butler Police BBQ at the Bates County Fairgrounds.
