Winter Weather Advisory for Bates County

... Winter Storm Watch in effect from late Sunday night through
late Tuesday night...

The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has
issued a Winter Storm Watch for freezing drizzle... heavy snow and
blowing snow... which is in effect from late Sunday night through late
Tuesday night.

* Location... eastern Kansas and western Missouri... including the
cities of St. Joseph... Kansas City... Butler... Clinton... and
Warrensburg.

* Timing... light freezing drizzle or freezing rain will be possible
early Monday morning through Monday night. Widespread snow will
move into the area late Monday night and continue through Tuesday
night. Snowfall will end by Wednesday morning.

* Snow and ice accumulations... a light glaze of ice up to a tenth of
an inch will be possible on Monday and Monday night. Snow
accumulations between 6 and 10 inches may be possible through
Wednesday morning.

* Impacts... this long duration storm will arrive in multiple waves.
Light freezing drizzle or freezing rain will lead to icy conditions
on primary and secondary roads as early as the Monday morning
commute. Once snow arrives Monday night... roads will rapidly become
snow covered and travel will be difficult to extremely dangerous
on Tuesday.

* Other impacts... strong winds between 20 and 30 mph Tuesday
afternoon will create significant blowing and drifting snow along
with highly reduced visibilities into Tuesday night.
Additionally... falling temperatures will also be likely Tuesday
night producing wind chill temperatures well below zero by
Wednesday morning.

Shake up at City Hall

To her surprise, the mayor of Hume Mo. received a letter of her impeachment last Friday from a member of the city counsel. Mayor Maxine Dixon was voted in last year as an uncontested write in candidate and says she's "done nothing wrong, the impeachment lacks merit, is downright silly and vindictive".
Dixon will not elaborate on the charges before she seeks council with the Missouri Attorney General and her own legal counsel.
"I'm not going to take this lying down. I am going to protect my good name" says Dixon who is preparing for the upcoming council meeting, as the meeting agenda includes the impeachment issue.
Members of the Hume city counsel are Cassandra Rogers, Katharina Brooks, James Larch and Charles Shepherd. Dixon says counsel meetings have been chaotic and those in attendance have difficulty staying on track with the subjects up for discussion.
The meeting is scheduled for Feb. 7th. Bates County Live will continue to follow this story as it develops.

Upper 40's today

Today
Sunny in the morning then becoming partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 40s. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight
Partly cloudy in the evening then becoming mostly cloudy. Lows in the mid 20s. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph.
