Butler man receives minor injuries in Cass county accident

Justin R. Nichols, 31, of Butler was transported to Research Hospital for treatment of minor injuries following an accident on 71 Highway, about two miles North of Archie last night. Around 10:45 p.m., Nichols was traveling Southbound and apparently fell asleep. His vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, returned to the roadway, traveled off the right side and struck several road signs. The report shows Nichols was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident; charges are pending as the investigation continues.

Structure fire on South Main street in Butler

8:20 p.m. - Butler and Adrian fire departments are responding to a residential structure fire on South Main street just North of 52 Highway.

8:29 p.m. - Update - The structure involved was demolished and deemed a controlled burn. All fire units reported back in service.

Defendants get their day in court

The following defendants were sentenced in the Bates County Circuit Court yesterday:

Kandy Hoover of Butler, Mo. - Probation violation - sentenced to 120 days 

Cory Lane of Butler, Mo. - Probation violation - sentenced to 5 years with 120 days shock time

Joshua Bearden of Rockville, Mo - Probation violation - sentenced to 4 years DOC

Ricky Burris of Butler Mo. - Probation violation - sentenced to to 10 years DOC

Butler Police chief suspended today

Butler Mayor Don Malan reported today that police chief Jim Garnett has been suspended from duties for 30 days pending the findings of an internal investigation. Police Lieutenant Randy Beshore will be serving as Butler police chief during the interim.

Mullinax offers historic location for meetings and gatherings

The Carriage House at Mullinax Funeral Home is now offered as an affordable meeting location for the community.  Space is available for up to 80 people comfortably, with additional seating available if needed.  Food refrigeration space is provided as well.  It is easily handicap accessible from the funeral home's parking lot.  The Carriage House is ideal for meetings of any kind, luncheons, or a regular meeting place for any club or organization.  The normal cost is $35 and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.  The facility can be reserved by calling the funeral home at 679-0009.
