Obituary - Fern F. Irvin

Graveside services for Fern F. Irvin of Adrian, Missouri will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) with Pastor Ron Dunlap officiating. No visitation. In lieu of flowers, make contributions to the Adrian Community Library, City of Adrian Fire Department or Grace Hospice.

Fern Frances Irvin, age 98 of Adrian, Missouri died March 9, 2011 at her home in Adrian. She was born March 25, 1912 to Charles and Lennie Mae McCaslin Wilson near Garden City, Missouri.

Fern is survived by two sons, Gene Irvin and wife Kay and Roger Irvin and wife Carol both of Adrian, Missouri; one daughter, Janice Irvin of Buckeye, Arizona; three grandchildren, Cricket Irvin, Lecia Irvin and Lori Haskins and husband P.J.; two great-grandchildren, Dmitrij and Caleb Douty; four step-grandchildren and several step great and step great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Irvin and four brothers, Fred, Melvin, Edsel and John.

Funeral services for Fay Irene Lawson will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Dr. Terry Davis officiating. No visitation. Burial, Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri.

Fay Irene Lawson, age 94 of Butler, Missouri died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. She was born November 1, 1916 to Artie E. and Elda A. France Ware in Neosho, Missouri.

Mrs. Lawson was a member of the First Baptist Church and Rebecca Lodge of Butler and a joyful participant of the Get Togethers women's social club. Well known for the beautiful custom draperies she fabricated for countless well-tended homes in Butler and throughout Bates County over several decades, Mrs. Lawson found great satisfaction in producing beautiful, high-quality products that would endure for many years. Over her lifetime Mrs. Lawson traveled the world, enjoyed annual visits to family members on the West Coast, excelled at competitive bowling, enjoyed singing, appreciated a good card game, and loved reading and working crossword puzzles. A gentle, kind, tolerant and loving person Mrs. Lawson left positive footprints wherever she tread and will be greatly missed by all who shared the privilege of knowing her.

Fay is survived by sisters-in-law Doris Ware of Branson, Missouri and Doris Ware of Newport, Washington; nephews Charles Eugene "Gene" Myers of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Farrell Ware of Grand Coulee, Washington; nieces Sharon Witt of Middletown, Ohio, Carolyn Neal of West Hollywood, California and Mary Beth Ronan of Newport, Washington and by many great-nephews and great-nieces. A lifelong resident of Butler, Missouri Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by her husband Tom Lawson in 1966; parents Artie and Elda Ware; siblings Cleland, Arnold and Donald Ware and Marjorie Ritter, Edna Myers, Mary Macfarlane and Kathryn Andrews.

Two perish in early morning fire near Virginia

It is being reported that a house fire east of Virginia this morning has claimed the lives of two individuals. The names have not been released pending notification of family. The state fire marshall was dispatched to the scene later this morning; the investigation is ongoing at this time.

Authorities are responding to a single story house on fire just east of Virginia on 52 highway. Use caution and be aware of emergency vehicles in the area.

Attention Seniors 60 and over...

The Community Food Pantry has food boxes available for persons 60 and over on a fixed income. The income limit for one person is $1,174.00- for two persons the limit is $1,579.00.


These boxes are 30 pounds of dry product and 2 lb. of cheese per month. If you would like to apply or know someone who would qualify please contact the food pantry at 660-679-3951. We have 10 extra boxes for distribution this month.

Arthur Diehl Cumpton, age 92 of Butler, Missouri died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at his home. He was born September 27, 1918 to William Everett and Rosa Diehl Cumpton in Bates County, Missouri.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Clara Mae Cumpton of Butler, Missouri; two daughters, Charmaine Ketron and Karen Cooper both of Butler, Missouri; a brother, Quinten Cumpton and wife Blanche of Butler, Missouri; a sister, Gladys Linard of Butler, Missouri; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nephews, nieces and other relatives. He was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Everett, Marvin and George Cumpton; and one sister, Wilma Kollman.

Employment fair coming to BCMH this month

March 18th the West Central Missouri Community Action Agency will host again host an employment education and resource fair at the Bates County Memorial Hospital. The fair will provide an excellent opportunity for employers to visit with those who are seeking jobs; likewise, those seeking jobs will have the opportunity to see a variety of employment options from around the area.
