Summer dates set for Kamp Keirsey

Summer will be here before you know it and Kamp Keirsey has released the dates for the upcoming season:

Girls camp - June 5th through 10th
People with disabilities camp - June 17th and 18th
Sr. high youth camp - June 19th through 25th
Jr. high youth camp - June 26th through July 1st
Day camp - July 2nd
Children's overnight camp - July 8th and 9th
Boys and girls camp - July 10th through 15th
Basketball camp - July 24 through 29th

More information along with registration forms are available at www.KampKeirsey.com. Forms are also available at any Osage River Baptist Association church.

Miami school hires new superintendent

Miami R-1 Schools recently announced that Frank Dahman has been been hired to fill the position of exiting superintendent, Leonard Tourtillott. Mr. Dahman lives in Harrisonville and is a graduate of the University of Central Missouri where he studied education administration. 


He is currently serving as high school principal with the Clinton Mo. school district.

Change your clocks this weekend

It's time again for the ceremonial resetting of clocks for the Spring daylight savings time change. Be sure to set your clocks  forward one hour before going to bed this Saturday night.

Fatal fire deemed possible double homicide

A fire near Virginia yesterday morning which claimed the lives of two people is now being treated as a homicide, according to the Bates County Sheriff's Department. As the department's investigation continues with the help of the Missouri Highway Patrol and the Missouri State Fire Marshall's office, autopsies are being performed in Kansas City this morning. 

If anyone has information regarding the fire, please contact the Bates County Sheriff's Department at 660-679-3232 immediately. More information is expected to be released this afternoon.

Statewide tornado drill today at 1:30

Missouri's statewide tornado drill will be held today at 1:30 p.m.
The drill is part of Missouri 2011 Severe Weather Awareness week, which runs from through this Friday.
According to the Missouri Department of Public Safety, once Missourians hear broadcast drill messages or outdoor warning sirens, they should practice seeking shelter. The safest shelter location is an interior room without windows in the lowest level of a building. Other safe locations for businesses and schools include basements, hallways, underneath staircases and designated tornado safe rooms. The drill is complete once everyone is accounted for in the designated shelters.

Obituary - Robert Lee Hooker

Robert "Bob" Lee Hooker, 80, Adrian, MO, died Monday, March 7, 2011 at Indian Meadows Nursing Home in Overland Park, KS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian. Friends may call from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. Memorial contributions may be made to charity of choice.

Butler city wide garage sale will be May 7th...

Ready for Spring cleaning? The Butler Chamber of Commerce city wide garage sale is set for Saturday, May 7th. To participate, Butler residents must obtain a permit from the Butler Chamber office by April 26th. Cost for the permit is $10 per address.


Maps with locations of garage sales will be made available to bargain shoppers- Bates County Live will advise when the maps are completed and ready for pick up.
