Thunderstorm warning extended

The National Weather Service has extended the Severe Thunderstorm Warning to include all of Bates County until 10:45 p.m.

Northwestern Bates County under storm warning

The National Weather Service has placed northwestern Bates County under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning effective until 10:00 p.m. this evening.

Barn on fire near Virginia

Butler, Amoret and Amsterdam fire departments are on the scene of a large barn on fire west of Virginia on 52 Highway. The barn is reported to be owned by Cody King of Amoret.

Large hail possible this evening

Numerous thunderstorms in the evening...then periods of showers and isolated thunderstorms after midnight. Breezy. Some thunderstorms may be severe with damaging winds and large hail in the evening. Lows in the mid 40s. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph shifting to the north after midnight. Chance of precipitation 90 percent.

Calendar correction...

The Show of Wheels Car Show will be held tomorrow (April 3) in the parking lot next to Gray's Cafe in Butler from noon to 4 p.m. Registration begins at 11 a.m.

Money raised from the show will help send area students to New York to perform with New York Philharmonic later this year.

Obituary - Eva Chamberlain

Funeral services for Eva Chamberlain will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2011 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) with Brother Paul Burhart officiating. Visitation will be prior to services from 1-2 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Scott Cemetery, Amsterdam, Missouri. Contributions to Eva Chamberlain Children's Fund.

Eva Marie Chamberlain, age 54 of Adrian, Missouri died Friday, April 1, 2011 at Crystal Manor in Adrian. She was born March 15, 1957 to Eldon Wayne and Edith Chamberlain McMurray in Amoret, Missouri.

Eva is survived by one son, Travis Smith of Adrian, Missouri; two daughters, Krista Smith and Kayla SMith, both of Adrian, Missouri; her mother, Edith McMurray of Adrian, Missouri; one brother, Bruce Buckner and wife Tina of Rich Hill, Missouri; four sisters, Diana Ewing and husband Melvin of Butler, Missouri, Tina Morriss and husband Stephen of Harrisonville, Missouri, Brenda Tullock of Holden, Missouri and Teresa Morrow and husband Dale of Adrian, Missouri; and nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father.

Jean Karolat faces additional charges in animal hoarding case

Jean Karolat, 50, is headed to back to court to face additional charges in a rural Bates County animal hoarding case. On January 31st, law enforcement and the Humane Society removed 38 dogs, 18 cats and a bird from her property northwest of Butler. Karolat was arrested and charged with a Class A Misdemeanor as the animals were being kept in unsanitary and unhealthy conditions.

While Karolat has taken her case to the Western District Appeals Court in Kansas City, she still faces eight criminal charges for animal abuse in the Bates County Circuit Court. A pre-trial conference is set for April 25th.
