Bates County Community Health Foundation hosting 7th annual golf tournament in June

Saturday, June 11th marks the date for the 7th annual Bates County Community Health Foundation golf tournament at the Butler Country Club. The shotgun start, four man scramble starts at 8 a.m. with check in time at 7:30.

Sponsors are needed- $100 per hole which includes a sign with your or company name at the hole. The sponsorship price also covers participation for your four man team.

The Bates County Community Health Foundation has awarded $1,000 scholarships for the last five years to those pursuing a career in nursing or are working towards a higher level in the nursing field.

1st place team will be awarded $400, 2nd - $300 and third place pays $200, with a $10,000 hole-in-one contest. There will also be prizes for closest to the pin and longest drive.

Accident on 71 Highway results in minor injuries

Travis T. Williams, 34, of Peculiar received minor injuries last night in a single car accident on Northbound 71 Highway just South of the Miami Creek bridge. Williams was driving a 1992 Ford that traveled off the roadway, struck an embankment and sign, then came to a rest in the median. He was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Highlights from Ozark Shores Rentals grand opening today

Grand opening of Butler's newest business was held today- Ozark Shores Rentals, located in the former Movie Gallery location next to McDonald's. Brothers/owners Robert and Bill Mullally were on hand to greet those who came to see the Blues Brothers, have a hot dog and take a look around the new store.

Store manager John Koch was also busy with those who came to see the offerings of Ozark Shores Rentals- furniture, washers, dryers, televisions, beds, interior decor items, refrigerators, dishwashers and more.

The Mullally brothers purchased their first store in Clinton, which was already established for over 20 years. Since then they have opened stores in Warsaw, Bolivar and now Butler. The Mullally's are members of the Missouri Rental Dealers Association and are looking forward to opening at least three more stores spanning Missouri and Kansas within the next six months.

Students receive Elks scholarships

The Bates County Elks Lodge held a Reception for Scholarship recipients for the 2010-2011 School Year on Wednesday, April 20th at 7 p.m. The Elks Lodge presented 3 Scholarships of $500.00 each to Courtney McGuire, Evelyn Toppass, and Ariel Blazer, presented by Exalted Ruler Keith Ridgway and the Lady Elks presented 2 Scholarships of $500.00 each to Ryan Good and Natashia Minor presented by Beverly Ridgway.
