Habitat for humanity needs workers

In the last 35 years Habitat for Humanity has built more than 250,000 homes around the world for families in need, including four in Bates County. Construction of the fifth Habitat for Humanity house is currently underway near Hume.

Bates County Live spoke with local Habitat for Humanity secretary Brenda Darr, who told us that anyone who can help with some basic labor would be greatly appreciated. The home is in the sheetrock and mud stages, and there's still lots more to do. "There's still quite a bit of wiring, trim work, flooring and that kind of thing" said Darr "we simply need folks to run tools, carry materials and help any way they can".

Darr also stressed that anyone wishing to get more involved should do so right away. "We are always looking for new members. And fundraising ideas- anyone who has good ideas would be a huge help to our organization".

The office number for the Bates County Area Habitat for Humanity is 660-679-4368 and is located in the old high school building on Pine street. Those interested in helping may also call Brenda directly at 660-679-4355.

Construction of the Hume project is slated to be finished by early Summer.
