69th Annual Hume Fair and Rodeo schedule

Tuesday Aug. 2nd:
6:30 p.m. - Ham and bean feed at the arena
7:30 p.m. - Draft horse pull at the arena

Wednesday Aug. 3rd:
6:30 p.m. - Ice cream social at the city park
7 p.m.- Gospel sing at the bandstand

Thursday Aug. 4th:
6:30 p.m. - Kiddie peddle pull at the arena for ages 4 to 13
8 p.m. - Hume Olympics at the arena must be 18 years old to participate

Friday Aug. 5th:
7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. - Entries for fair at Legion Hall
8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. - registration for 0-pre K kid's games at 9 a.m.
10 a.m. to noon - Legion Hall closed for judging
12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. - registration for K-17 y/o games starting at 1 p.m.
4 p.m. - Pet contest at city park
5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. - Registration for talent show
6 p.m. - talent show
8 p.m. - rodeo

Saturday Aug. 6th:
8 to 8 :30 a.m. - registration for baby contest and swimsuit contest
8:30 a.m. - baby contest, diaper only 0-24 months. Swimsuit contest to follow for boys and girls 2-4 years old.
9 a.m. - horseshoe pitching contest SW corner of city park
10 a.m. - parade line up at Methodist Church parking lot
11 a.m. - parade- this year's theme "The Biggest Little Fair"
11:30 to 12:30 p.m. - car show registration on the square
12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. - check in for washer tournament at the bandstand
12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Opry House Theater Performers of El Dorado Springs
1 p.m. - garden tractor pull west of the arena
2 p.m. - Crowning of Prince and Princess
3 p.m. - drawings for prizes
8 p.m. - rodeo and crowning of Queen. Street dance by Muddy Creek following the rodeo.

Rich Hill R-IV high school enrollment is set and here's the schedule:


August 1st:
Seniors 9-10 a.m.
Juniors 10-11 a.m.
Sophomores 11-noon
Freshmen 1-2 p.m.


August 2nd:
Freshmen 9-10 a.m.
Sophomores 10-11 a.m.
Juniors 11-noon
Seniors 1-2 p.m.

Enrollment packets will be distributed and schedules finalized on the above dates.

Junior High enrollment dates will be announced in the near future.

Obituary - Virginia Willis

Graveside services for Virginia Willis will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Benjamin Cemetery in Amoret, Missouri. There is no visitation. Arrangements under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler, Missouri.

Virginia Lee Willis, age 75 of Amoret, Missouri died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born June 2, 1936 to Ralph and Pauline Stevens Turley in Kansas City, Missouri.

Virginia is survived by her husband Calvin D. Willis of Amoret, Missouri; four sons, Dwain Willis Jr. and wife Connie Sue of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Larry Willis and wife Debi of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mark Willis and wife Pat of Peculiar, Missouri and Douglas Willis and wife Val of Belton, Missouri; two daughters, Ellen Houx and husband Mike of Edwardsville, Illinois and Tracy Williams and husband Chris of Lebanon, Missouri; one brother, Stevie Turley and wife Janice of Jasper, Arkansas; and 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ralph and Chris; two sisters, Christine and Joanne; and two grandsons, Scott and Jason.

Adrian teen escapes serious injury in rollover accident

Around 11:15 this morning Whitney J. Bagby, 18, of Adrian received minor injuries in an accident on 18 highway about one mile east of route FF. According to the report, Bagby was westbound in a 2004 Mustang when the vehicle was forced off the roadway by another vehicle. The car struck a culvert, overturned, and came to a rest in the ditch.

Sgt. Gach of the Missouri Highway Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Adrian Fire Department, the Bates County Sheriff's Department and Bates County EMS. The report shows that Bagby was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and was treated for minor injuries.

Butler Senior places high in national FBLA competition

nation in the June FBLA national competition held
in Orlando, Florida
Nathan McGuire a senior at Butler R-V, represented the state of Missouri at the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida, June 28-July 1, 2011. Competing in FBLA-PBL’s national awards program, Nathan vied for top honors in the Computer Problem Solving event against state representatives from across the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Guam, the Cayman Islands, and the Department of Defense schools worldwide. The Butler R-V FBLA chapter is very pleased to announce that Nathan earned 4th place in the Nation! 

This is the second year in a row that Nathan has qualified to attend National FBLA competition. He is the son of Shannon and Lynell McGuire of rural Butler.

Rollover accident on 18 highway

Authorities are responding to a report of a rollover accident on 18 highway at the FF highway intersection west of Adrian. Use extreme caution if traveling through the area.

Adrian Fire Department, Bates County EMS and the Missouri Highway Patrol are in route to the scene.


Update 12:38 p.m. - It is being reported that an 18 year old female sustained minor injuries in the accident.

American Cancer Society Day at BCMH August 1st...


Nikke Leake of the American Cancer Society will be on hand August 1st from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the front lobby of the Bates County Memorial Hospital to offer  valuable cancer related resources and information.
