August BCMH Employee of the Month Jennifer Hix

JENNIFER HIX is recognized as the Bates County Memorial Hospital Employee of the Month for August, 2011. Jennifer has been employed at the hospital since August, 2007 as a Medical Laboratory Technician in the Laboratory Department. Jennifer demonstrates a positive work ethic and support for her co-workers. She will always greet you with a friendly smile. 

Jennifer is working on her Master’s Degree while continuing to work full-time in the Laboratory. The hospital congratulates Jennifer on this recognition.

Harvey murder trial moved to Henry County

Raymond Samuel Harvey has been granted a change of venue and the case has been moved to Henry County. A trial date will be announced later.


Harvey is charged with two felony counts of murder, two counts of felony armed criminal action and one count of felony arson in connection with the murders of Brandee and Bailey Bickleman at their home near Virginia in March.

Obituary - Bruce Phillips

Graveside memorial services for Bruce Phillips will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2011 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, Missouri. There is no visitation. Services under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler.

Bruce Eugene Phillips, age 61 of Butler, Missouri died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at his home in Butler. He was born April 7, 1950 to Clifford Edmond and Pearl Frances Burrage Phillips in Mobile, Alabama.

Bruce is survived by two brothers, David Phillips and wife Sherry of Tucson, Arizona and Paul Phillips and wife Melissa of Butler, Missouri; two nephews, Pat Phillips and Brian Phillips; and one niece, Kimberly Shearmeyer. He was preceded in death by his parents.

First Day of School - August 18, 2011

Butler R5 School District will begin classes on Thursday, August 18, 2011. The grade school doors will open at 7:40 am for breakfast. Elementary classes will begin at 8:10 am. High school doors will open at 7:30 am for breakfast. Classes will begin at 7:50 am. Thursday will be our first early dismissal at 2:00 pm.

New teacher orientation will be August 12. All staff members will participate in district wide staff development August 15-17.

Seniors pick up schedules Tuesday, August 2nd and Wednesday, August 3rd

Juniors pick up schedules Thursday, August 4th and Friday, August 5th
