Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch to be in effect until 8 p.m. this evening. Current radar shows storms inbound within the next hour or so.

House fire in Amsterdam

Around 1 p.m. Amsterdam fire and other neighboring were called to a house fire in Amsterdam. It was reported to be the Cook residence just north of Main street. Around 1:20 Amsterdam fire reported the fire was out and other responding units from Adrian and Butler were returned to service.

Amsterdam fire reported incident command terminated are were returning in service at 1:43 p.m.

Changes and schedule for Miami R-1 school year



Miami football athletes will be merging with the Drexel Bobcats during the football season this year. The combined teams will begin practice soon and look forward to a competitive season.

Frank Dahman will be joining the staff for the 2011 year as Superintendent. Mr. Dahman is a graduate of the Butler High School and served the past eight years as principal for Clinton Schools.

He, wife Nora and their two children are looking forward to coming back to the area. 

Junior High Football begins August 15, 2011 at 9:00 am... bring physicals and insurance information.

Elementary Enrollment: August 15 & 16, 2011 8:00 am to Noon, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm... Please bring Birth Certificate and all important documents to update your records.

The rain held off long enough for Hume Fair Parade held this morning- parade winner names will be announced later: 



Overnight crash sends one to the hospital

Jarin M. McGovern, 28 of Wellington Mo. received serious injuries around 1 a.m. in a single car accident on 18 highway just north of Merwin. McGovern was driving southbound in a 2003 Hyundai that left the roadway on a curve and overturned. He was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The Amsterdam Fire Department assisted Bates County EMS on the scene. The report indicates McGovern was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident
