All Around the Square with Huckster's Day...

 Take a perfect Fall day, line the Butler square with food, crafts and fun and you have Huckster's Day 2011. As was the case Saturday as Butler was buzzing with city wide garage sales and a steady flow of traffic to the square to check out the activities.

Many prizes were given out throughout the day- a full list of the day's winners will be published in the near future.

Many find their way to alpaca festival this weekend

The Alpacas for Autism Fall Festival was underway this weekend offering the opportunity for children and their families alike to experience the gentle nature of alpacas and learn more about them. Tina and Bob Cochran of rural Adrian run the operation that enjoyed a steady flow of traffic this weekend as folks came from all over to see the alpacas along with fainting goats, a llama and spinning wheel operators. Two car accident with injuries West of Butler

2:18 p.m. - Bates County EMS and the Butler Fire Department are headed to the scene of a two car accident with injuries reported on West 52 Highway at K highway and the road is blocked at this time.

Extrication of at least one victim may be required- avoid traveling in the area if possible.

Update 2:31 p.m. - Extrication not required, minor injuries reported.

Preserve 6 Day Mail Delivery

Cutting 17% of your business to save roughly 5% on operating expenses
doesn't add up. But that is exactly what the USPS is proposing--drastic
changes to their business model, the most radical of which is eliminating
Saturday mail delivery. This is not a sensible solution to preserve the
economic health of the USPS.

The USPS' unique model offers affordable universal service to every
address, six days a week, as mandated by the Constitution. This uniform
rate structure ensures efficient mail delivery to even the most rural
locations--where competitors either won't deliver or charge high premiums
for Saturday delivery.

Maintaining six-day delivery of mail is vital to preserving the economic
health of the Postal Service.

Obituary - Curt Cleland

Funeral services for Curt Cleland will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Cremation to follow services. Visitation will be prior to services from 10-11 a.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Contributions to American Heart Association.

Roy Curtis Cleland, age 48 of Garden City, Missouri died Friday, September 30, 2011 in Garden City. He was born September 27, 1963 to Roy George and Linda Sue Asher Cleland in Kansas City, Kansas.

Curtis is survived by his wife, Judy Cleland of Independence, Missouri; two daughters, Samantha Delozier and husband Dustin and Whitney Cleland, all of Garden City, Missouri; one sister, Julie Novak and husband tom of Leavenworth, Kansas; and a grandson, Braxton. He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Peppi; and an uncle, Bob Asher.

As busy day in Drexel

Drexel was buzzing today with folks from all over for the annual Fall Festival and garage sale. H.T. Smith park was filled with live music, vendors of all types and of course, great food.

Many were seen about town checking the bargains at the local garage sales as well.

Funeral services for Mark Davenport will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Chaplain Herb Bishop officiating and Pastor Paul Buschmann assisting. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Virginia Cemetery, Virginia, Missouri. Contributions to Heartland Hospice.

Michael Mark Davenport, age 57 of Butler, Missouri died Friday, September 30, 2011 at his home in Butler. He was born July 19, 1954 to Ammon Frank and Edith Beryl Hess Davenport in Kansas City, Missouri.

Mark is survived by his wife, Joyce Davenport of Butler, Missouri; two sons, Stacy Davenport and wife Michelle of Butler, Missouri and Shaun Davenport of Kansas City, Missouri; a daughter, Kristie Jinkens and husband Dale of Grain Valley, Missouri; one brother, David Davenport and wife Kathie of Rich Hill, Missouri; and seven grandchildren, Ambre, Michael, Seth, Emilie, Elysse, Baliey and Luke. He was preceded in death by his parents.
