Annual Butler Masonic Lodge Turkey Dinner fundraiser Nov. 6th

The Butler Masonic Lodge # 254 would like to invite everyone to our 16th annual turkey dinner Sunday, Nov. 6th, located at 1203 N. Orange St. Butler, Mo. We will start serving dinner at 11:00 AM. Dinners are $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for kids 12 and under. For carry out you can call 660-200-5301; for delivery call 660-424-9450.

A little history regarding this annual event: In 1995, Wilbur Taylor made a motion to our Lodge to have this turkey dinner as a fundraiser for college scholarships. The motion passed and since that time we have given $8,000.00 in scholarships to students in Butler.

That being said, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for supporting us and without whom none of this could be possible. This is something we can all be proud of. With your help this event gets bigger every year. We served over 200 dinners last year and hope to serve even more this year.

As many of you may remember there has been a group of young men in dress shirts and ties assisting us by greeting you at the door and making sure everyone had drinks, just to mention a few things. They are a group of civic minded young men known as The Thirteen Brothers Demolay. We are proud to sponsor their chapter and are looking forward to their assistance again this year.

Obituary - Glen Jenkins

Funeral services for Glen Jenkins will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Rev. Jerry Jenkins officiating and Pastor Eldon Allen assisting. Visitation will be prior to services from 10-11 a.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, Missouri. Contributions to Adrian Public Library, Mt. Olivet Methodist Church or Crescent Hill Cemetery.

Glen Oren Jenkins, age 89 of Butler, Missouri died Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville, Missouri. He was born November 15, 1921 to Max Earless and Minnie Lee Poindexter Jenkins in Bates Couty, Missouri.

Glen is survived by his wife, Betty Jenkins of Butler, Missouri; one son, Kerry Jenkins and wife Julie of Adrian, Missouri; a daughter, Sheila Tumbleson; one sister-in-law, Louise Jenkins of Kimberling City, Missouri; four grandchildren, Bob Holman, Tisha Sweet, Kelly Jenkins and Betty Grace Tumbleson; and great-granddaughter, Alicia Holman and several nephews, nieces and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kelly; two sisters, Evalena and Julia; five brothers, Bill Jenkins, Clayton Jenkins, Floyd Jenkins, Fay Jenkins and Russell Jenkins.

USPS pays billions in retirement benefits for those not born yet

10 day waiting period for 'vicious' dogs being discussed

Butler City Council Meeting October 18, 2011:

A representative from McKinstry updated the City Council on the progress that has been made regarding the low interest loan applications submitted to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Missouri Department of Economic Development which will be used to provide funding for energy upgrades to the City facilities. These upgrades will be used to reduce operating costs. McKinstry will be back for the November 8th meeting for another update.

Angie Kauffman told the Council about the upcoming 5K walk/jog which will benefit the families of Sara Clarke and Logan Wells, both are battling cancer. Both the parents of these children are teachers in the Butler school system. The event will take place on October 29th beginning at 10am at the flag pole at the Butler High School and will travel up High Street. Police Chief Jerry Boyd will help with the coordination of the event which will include the closing of streets for the safety of the walkers/runners.
The Parks and Recreation Commission reported on the proposed expansion of the Trail of Memories which will hopefully be from High Street to Park Street to the Hospital.

As of 3:05 p.m., Adrian Fire is on the scene of a grass fire about two miles east of 71 on E highway, while Butler Fire is headed to a combine fire about two miles East of Main street on CR 5004. Use caution and watch for emergency vehicles if traveling in the area.
