Bears playoff game reminder for tonight...

Butler Bears vs. Higginsville will be tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Deaton-Thomas Field in Butler. Admission will be $6.00 per person under 6 free (per MSHSAA – NO PASSES). Member of the working press need to present a Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Card or verification from their sports editor or manager.

Don't forget that Project Prom will be selling pork sandwiches at the game.....$6 gets you a sandwich, chips, beans, and a pickle......$4 for a sandwich only. Come and support you BHS Project Prom while you cheer the Bears to VICTORY.

The game can be heard locally on FM 92.1 the Bullet. The game will not be streamed or podcast due to MSHSAA rules, however Bates County Live will provide updates throughout the evening.

More information regarding Oklahoma earthquake...

The 4.7 and 5.6 earthquakes that rocked central Oklahoma this weekend have certainly been a hot topic of discussion, as many claim claim the ground waves were felt locally.

Earthquakes are not unusual in Oklahoma, but they often are too small to be felt. From 1972-2008 about 2-6 earthquakes a year were recorded by the USGS National Earthquake Information Center. In 2008, earthquake activity began to increase, with over a dozen earthquakes recorded that year. In 2009 the rate continued to climb, with nearly 50 quakes recorded--many big enough to be felt. The earthquakes from 1973-2007 were scattered broadly across the east-central part of the state.

Aftershocks from Oklahoma quake felt in the area

Bates County Live has received numerous reports that aftershocks from a 5.6 earthquake in Oklahoma yesterday were felt locally. While the quake did not cause damage here, it has spurred lots of concern. Film crew focuses on Amsterdam

The Dutch film crew dines in Butler Wednesday evening- L to R:

There's a movie being made not in Hollywood or New York, but all across the USA and it includes scenes featuring little 'ol Amsterdam, Mo.

That's right- a Dutch film crew is making a documentary about all the cities named Amsterdam in the United States and of course that would include a stop here in Bates County.

While dining at the Inn Building Wednesday night, Peggy Buhr along with Donna and Randy Gregory learned about the project that will include footage from all 16 Amsterdam's in the USA that stretch from New Jersey to California.

Besides filming, the crew had a good time visiting new found friends in and around Amsterdam and Butler. This included filming at the Amsterdam Cafe and the Fur, Fins & Feathers taxidermy shop on the South edge of town. And lots of still photos were taken as well.

From their blog- "We ended the night how all nights should end…good food and good drinks with new friends. Peggy and Donna, two great women of Butler MO, invited us to a meal at Majestic Cellars. It was such a spectacular evening. I recommend the steak and crab. After a long day of filming, dinners like this are so essential. A big thank you to everyone who made today so productive and memorable."
