Watch for scam directed at local bank customers

Information for Citizens Bank customers, an e-mail scam is spreading asking for verification for all Citizens Bank online customers. The scam states that information is needed for a maintenance exercise. Citizens Bank will not contact you by email for any type of information. Please do not respond to this scam and do not offer any account information.

If you receive a suspicious email or phone call, contact your bank directly so they may take appropriate action.

Line up for the Adrian Christmas parade Nov. 26th


The 2nd annual Adrian Christmas Parade will be sponsored by the Adrian Chamber of Commerce. The WMAT&MA will host the parade before their annual Hot Chocolate night on Saturday November 26th.
The parade will begin at 4:30. All organizations are invited to participate. There will be prizes awarded for the best float and other entries.

Lineup will start at 3:30 pm at the Adrian VFW Building on Main Street prior to the 4:30 parade.

Butler Police Department weekly report

Nov. 1 - Medical assist in the 600 block of W. Nursery; medical assist in the 700 block of Parkview; keep the peace in the 800 block of W. Pine; prowler reported at Fran Apartments; gas line break in the 200 block of N. Havanna.

Nov. 2 - Animal complaint at the grade school; theft report in the 800 block of W. Grove; medical assist at Sears; civil standby in the 800 block of W. Pine; juvenile call in the 400 block of E. Jefferson; civil standby in the 300 block of N. Main;  walk in report taken at PD; possible shots fired near Vine and Orange; house fire near Baker and Mill; disturbance call in the 500 block of W. Fort Scott.

House fire East of Adrian

 Butler, Adrian and Henry County fire departments are in route to a house reported to be on fire just North of 18 on Z highway. Initial reports are that heavy smoke and fire is showing.

First responders are in the process of confirming that all occupants are safely out of the structure. Use caution if driving anywhere in the area.

Minor bus accident sends one to hospital

Around 8:20 yesterday morning a school bus was involved in a minor accident on county road 7001 about a mile South of CR 11002 near Amsterdam. According to the MSHP report, Hunter Elkington, 12, and Dustin Rankin, 14, sustained minor injuries when the bus driven by Mary Limpus, 61, of Amsterdam struck a bridge railing on CR 7001. 

Hunter Elkington was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment. Damage to the bus was reported to be minor.

Delay in Butler vs Higginsville game

Higginsville currently leads Butler 23 to 6. The game is delayed at half time due to lightning in the area. The game will resume 30 minutes after the last lightning is seen, however current radar doesn't look too promising.

Update 9:04 p.m. - Due to more lightning, another 30 minute delay has been imposed. Officials at this time are going to decide in the near future if an attempt will be made to continue the game at some point tonight or continue it tomorrow.

10:39 p.m. - The game has resumed at the beginning of the second half of play. Butler trails 23 to 6.

11:30 p.m. - Final Higginsville 29, Butler 6

Toys for Tykes drive underway now

Toys for Tykes sponsored by Max Motors and Community First Bank of Butler sets a goal each year of making sure that every child has a gift to open on Christmas morning. Donations are now being accepted   as 300 children are currently registered with the Bates County Outreach Center, ranging in age from birth to 16 years.
