Rich Hill man charged in Adrian robbery

Danny Ross Smith of Rich Hill was charged with one count of 1st degree robbery and one count of armed criminal action regarding the robbery that occurred on Dec. 19th at the Happy Go Lucky in Adrian.
Ross entered the store with a hoodie covering his face and demanded several objects from the teller and was armed with a knife at the time. Taken in the robbery were multiple items that included Cash, glass pipe, and a large quantity of Cryptonite (Cryptonite is a chemical that is often smoked to achieve a synthetic high in the same manner as K2 Synthetic Marijuana). 

The Adrian Police Department investigated the case with the assistance from the Bates County Sheriff’s Office.

Next year’s youth spring turkey hunt will be earlier than usual...

Conservation Commission sets 2012 deer, turkey regulations

Hunters can start planning for next year’s turkey and deer seasons, thanks to recent actions by the Missouri Conservation Commission.

At its Dec. 15 meeting in Jefferson City, the Commission approved 2012 turkey-hunting regulations similar to 2011. The regular spring turkey season will run from April 16 through May 6. The fall firearms turkey season will run from Oct. 1 through 31.

The 2012 youth spring turkey season will take place the weekend of March 31 and April 1. In most years, the youth season opens nine days before the opening day of the regular spring turkey season. However, the season framework shifts the youth season one week earlier in years when the usual timing would cause the youth season to overlap Easter.

Limits, shooting hours and other turkey-hunting regulations remain unchanged from 2011 and will be published in guide books before hunting seasons.

The Commission also set Nov. 10 as opening day for the November portion of firearms deer season. The Commission will set opening dates for the urban, youth, antlerless and muzzleloader portions and other regulations for the 2012 deer season at its May meeting. These will be available in the 2012 Fall Deer and Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information booklet in July.

April Municipal Election filing deadline is Jan. 17th

The Municipal Election will be held April 3rd, 2012. Those filing for the Bates County Hospital Board, The School Board and City Offices have a deadline date of January 17th.

When we think about the holidays, it’s hard not to think about all of the good food we will enjoy. Many of us have been doing just that. Have you eaten to the point of being miserable? You’re not alone. You were most likely experiencing ingestion analgesia.

What is ingestion analgesia? Tammy Roberts, nutrition and health education specialist with University of Missouri Extension says “Ingestion means ‘to eat’ and analgesia is a state of not being able to feel pain.”

Legislative Session Begins Soon

The Second Regular Session of the 96th General Assembly will officially convene on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, and is scheduled to run until May 13, 2012. Many lawmakers from both the House and the Senate have already turned in bills to receive numbers. Prefiling legislation ensures that these measures will be presented on the floor on the first day of the new session.

Currently, I have prefiled three measures related to education. Education has been and continues to be one of my top priorities. Senate Bill 454 will modify the foundation formula to ensure that hold-harmless school districts do not gain at the expense of formula districts. The foundation formula is the primary method of distributing money to our state’s public schools.

Robbie Barnes has been selected EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR 2011 at Bates County Memorial Hospital. Robbie has been employed at the hospital since June, 1992. She works as a Cashier in the Patient Accounts Department. Robbie is often the person our patients come in contact with to pay their hospital bills. Although she may deal with patients who are not always happy, Robbie maintains her composure professionally and respectfully. Robbie is a very dedicated and compassionate employee of BCMH. She shows respect and concern towards her fellow employees. The hospital congratulates Robbie on this recognition.
