The Missouri State Highway Patrol, a premiere law enforcement agency, is
testing for new troopers. The Patrol is encouraging qualified individuals
of all backgrounds to apply, and will offer testing at nine different
locations in Missouri. Those who successfully complete testing will be
eligible to continue in the selection process for the 96th Recruit Class,
scheduled to begin training on January 16, 2013. The application deadline
is March 4, 2012.

Suspect apprehended near Butler this morning
The Bates County Sheriff's Department apprehended a male subject at 11:34 this morning in a field near YY highway and CR1056 near Butler. It is believed the subject is the same as person being sought in a manhunt that began yesterday afternoon in the same area.

Managing herbicide resistant weeds workshop
There will be a workshop on managing herbicide resistant weeds at the Butler Public Library on Wednesday, Jan. 18th from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. presented by Kevin Bradley, MU Weed Science Specialist.

Obituary - Roberta Scrogham

Roberta Fern Scrogham, age 73 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born October 7, 1938 to Robert Foster and Ruby Lenore Boling Bartlett in Butler.
Roberta is survived by her husband, Hadley Scrogham of Butler, Missouri; three sons, Duane Scrogham of Butler, Missouri, Cecil Scrogham and wife Tammy of Hutchinson, Kansas and Marty Scrogham and wife Jamie of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Gloria Turpin of Peculiar, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lydell Bartlett; one sister, Eva Turpin; and two brothers-in-law, Don Turpin and Robert Turpin.

Fund set up for Angel Gibson
Angel Gibson, 23, of Adrian was injured on Monday, January 2nd in a car accident. She is currently in Research Hospital suffering from a broken neck and has no feeling from the rib cage down and is medically sedated.
A medical fund has been set up at Adrian Bank, both in Butler and Adrian to help with the medical expenses.
There will be a benefit barrel race and silent auction which will be held on March 11th at the Lone Wolf arena and we will have more information regarding these events at a later date.

Private pesticide applicator training
Ag producers who need to obtain or renew a private pesticide applicator license can attend one of the following training sessions provided through University of Missouri Extension. This class also completes the EPA worker protection training program for ag employees who handle pesticides. Producers will be required to purchase an M87 manual for $12 unless they bring a 2007 M87 with them. Please call in reservations for the class one week prior at 417-448-2560 or at the local County Extension Center. If you have questions or need more information, contact Pat Miller, agronomy specialist, at that number. Let us know if you have any special needs at the time of registration. In case of bad weather the classes may be rescheduled. University of Missouri Extension programs are open to everyone.
