Fertilizer truck overturned east of Passaic

Adrian first responders and the Bates County Sheriff's Dept. is headed to a location on D highway about five miles east of Passaic where a fertilizer truck has overturned. It is being reported that the roadway is covered with fertilizer; traffic through the area may be restricted until the roadway is cleared.

Initial reports indicate the driver may have minor, if any, injuries.

Rollover accident near Butler

Police and EMS are in route to a reported rollover accident on 71 highway near the 71/52 interchange in west Butler. Use caution and watch for emergency vehicles if traveling through the area.

Fire at residence in Adrian

Just before 8 p.m. this evening the Adrian fire department was dispatched to 512 N. Kentucky on a report of smoke coming from the back of the residence. Upon arrival, firefighters found a small electrical fire contained under some insulation in the back of the attic.

The fire was put out in short order and no injuries were reported. The Adrian fire department reported back in service shortly before 10 p.m.

Obituary - George Anderson Jr.

George Redmond Anderson Jr. 80, Liberty, Missouri died Saturday, January 7, 2012 at his home in Liberty. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Harrisonville. Family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am Tuesday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation. George was born February 14, 1931 near Freeman, Missouri, a son of George R. and Opal (Todd) Anderson. He was united in marriage to Jean Miller July 1, 1950 in Harrisonville. George started working for Midland Brick & Tile in Harrisonville as a laborer and retired as sales manager for Midland Brick in Utica, Mo. George and Jean moved to Urich, Missouri in 1978 and owned and operated the Town Tavern before moving to Liberty in 2002. George was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Earnest and Bob. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean. Three daughters, Elnora Anderson, Drexel, Missouri, Ginny Kennedy, Pleasant Valley, Missouri, and Robin Flanigan and husband Tim, Liberty, Missouri. One sister, Doris Ingham, Urich, Missouri and a brother, Charles Anderson, Appleton City, Missouri. Five grandchildren, and sixteen great- grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Spring will be here before you know it...

Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces boating safety certification courses are being offered to the public at the following locations:

1. Saturday, February 11, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Henry County Sheriff's Department Training Room, 200 North Main St., Clinton, Missouri
2. Saturday, March 10, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Harry S. Truman Visitor Center, 2907 Visitor Center Road, Warsaw, Missouri
3. Saturday, April 21, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Truman High School, Small Lecture Hall, 3301 South Noland Road, Independence, Missouri

Students must be present to satisfy requirements for the boating safety card. There is no fee for this course; however, students are required to pre-register online, as seating will be limited and notification may be sent in the event the course is canceled. For more information, to register for this course, or to obtain a complete listing of where other courses are being offered, you may visit the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s website at www.mshp.dps.mo.gov. Once there, select “Divisions”, “Water Patrol Division”, and then “Safety Education Classroom Course.”

Missouri law requires any person born after January 1, 1984, to carry a boating safety certification card along with a picture ID anytime they operate a vessel, which includes personal watercraft, on Missouri lakes. Any student who successfully passes this course will be eligible to order the boating safety certification card, which costs $15.

MSHP seeking candidates

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, a premiere law enforcement agency, is
testing for new troopers. The Patrol is encouraging qualified individuals
of all backgrounds to apply, and will offer testing at nine different
locations in Missouri. Those who successfully complete testing will be
eligible to continue in the selection process for the 96th Recruit Class,
scheduled to begin training on January 16, 2013. The application deadline
is March 4, 2012.

Suspect apprehended near Butler this morning

The Bates County Sheriff's Department apprehended a male subject at 11:34 this morning in a field near YY highway and CR1056 near Butler. It is believed the subject is the same as person being sought in a manhunt that began yesterday afternoon in the same area.

More information will be released as it becomes available from the sheriff's department.
