New Business:
b. Mr. Heath Oates presented a curriculum overview of the district.
c. Candidacy for filing for the Board of Education closes Tuesday, Jan. 17th at 5:00 p.m. The following candidates have signed in the order of filing for the (2) available three year terms: Jim Herrell, Brad Davis, Robert Radford and Lindy Mailen. The district also has available (1) one year term. Bryan Tippie is the only candidate how has signed up for that position.
d. The board revisited the Phone policy and Mr. Hubbard had further defined academic day and possession.
e. Alan Stauffacher presented an overview of some of the legislative decisions that must be made in the Missouri State legislature in order for the district to be able to adequately project funding for next year. Some of those include how to pro-rate the formula and how the state will determine Hold Harmless school districts.
f. The board granted a request to allow the Optimist Club to host a Gun Show; proceeds would go back to support the school district.
g. The board reviewed the payments that were made through the Lease agreement. The district has accomplished all of projects as promised to the tax payers which included the elementary floor renovation, Agriculture roof, east and south parking lots at the high school and the track. In addition, the district was able to put in the lighting package at the track, sprinkler system, seeding, and a turnstile that will be installed in the near future. The board also will decide what the priorities will be for the remaining funds left over. Discussion items included: the sidewalk in front of the elementary on Fulton St. and the asphalt area on the elementary play ground.
Mr. Hubbard and Ms. Lawson presented their building level reports.
Closed Session:
The board reviewed the pay for Jr. High Wrestling.

One perishes in overnight fire

Shortly before 1:30 this morning Butler and Adrian fire departments were called to a residence on Summer street in northeast Butler on a report of a fire. It has been confirmed that one person perished in the fire and officials from the state Fire Marshal's office are investigating.

The name of the victim will be released after all family members have been notified.

The Kaysinger Basin Regional Planning Commission is putting together regional and county-based economic development strategies and needs public opinion to do so. The KBRPC region consists of the following counties-Bates, Benton, Cedar, Henry, Hickory, St. Clair and Vernon. These strategies could impact our community, so input from education staff, city officials, business owners and the general public is essential!

Winter Weather Advisory to be in effect overnight

The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow... which is in effect from 6 PM this evening to 9 am CST Thursday. They heaviest of snow accumulation is expected to be around the Kansas City area and to the North, however Bates County may see anywhere from a dusting to as much as a couple of inches of snow.

Makenzi Adams named Miss Missouri Collegiate 2012

Makenzi Adams age 20, of Adrian is the newly crowned Miss Missouri Collegiate 2012. Ms Adams will represent the state of Missouri at the National Pageant in San Antonio, Texas in March.

Miss Collegiate is a pageant system for any college girl in the state, ages 18-28. See photos and read more about Makenzi by clicking here.

Makenzi is the daughter of Pete and Denise Adams of Adrian.









Super Center in Butler open today

The doors opened to many waiting in line at the new Walmart super center in Butler this morning at 8 a.m. The over 100,000 square foot (103,000 to be exact) facility offers an enhanced selection of all types of items plus groceries.

The Super Center will be open 24 hours a day and is located on the Southeast corner of the 71 and 52 highway interchange in Butler.

Gee, thanks...

The Internal Revenue Service has notified media sources that this year’s income tax return deadline will be April 17th, due to the 15th falling on a Sunday and Monday the 16t will be Emancipation Day (a legal holiday).

The deadline to get your income tax returns in the mail will be midnight April 17th.
