MVA-Merwin Deputies responded to a call of a motorcycle in the ditch. The motor cycle was reported stolen from Adrian.

DISTURBANCE-Drexel Bates County Deputies received a report of a domestic disturbance that occurred in the rural Drexel area.

WANTED SUBJECT-Rich Hill Deputies arrested a male subject in Rich Hill in regards to a Bates County Warrant.

Car into guard rail sends one to hospital

A single car accident on 71 highway yesterday afternoon temporarily shut down a Northbound lane and sent a Marceline, MO woman to the hospital with minor injuries. Erica L. Gibson, 25, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet that ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a guard rail at the Marais des Cygnes river around 4:40 p.m.


Gibson was transported by ambulance to the Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment. Charges are pending at this time.

Accident blocks lane on 71 highway

Police and first responders are in route to an accident on 71 highway approximately 5 miles South of Butler where it is being reported that one lane is blocked for Northbound traffic.

Use caution and expect delays if traveling in the area.

2012 Wish List for Butler Public Library..

Our Butler Public Library is a not for profit private corporation which exists primarily on the generosity of the community. Donations in the past have allowed them to acquire Internet computer stations, a printer/scanner, office chairs, fax machine as well as being able to add books to their collection due to the generosity of various groups, businesses and individuals.

The 2012 wish list includes donations to purchase 2 new desk chairs, magazine subscriptions and new blinds for the community room. They also hope to purchase 9 chair mats, a 32” flat screen TV, 5 six foot tables. Monetary donations in addition to purchasing the wish list for this year will also help fund Story Hour and the Summer Reading Program. Any contribution to the Library is tax deductible and you can contact them at 660-679-4321 to make a donation.

The Butler Library also has a Community Room that can be reserved for 4 hours for just $30. The room has a capacity for 40 people with tables and chairs. Kitchen facilities are also available with the room with a refrigerator, sink microwave and coffee maker. Keep this in mind for your next meeting; it’s available even if the library isn’t open.

Attention high school Seniors!

Teaching Profession Scholarship is being offered...

If you have a senior that will be pursuing a teaching profession, the West Central Retired School Personnel Association is offering a one year non-renewable scholarship for at least $200. This scholarship is offered to senior in Adrian, Appleton City, Ballard, Butler, Drexel, Hume, Miami, Montrose and Rich Hill.
The requirements for the scholarship – applicants must have at minimum 3.0 GPA at the end of 7 semesters; display outstanding character, citizenship, involvement in school activities and must be accepted and enrolled at an approved teacher training college.

The application must be postmarked no later than March 1st and a transcript and two letters of recommendation must accompany the application.

Car into tree sends Butler woman to hospital

Around 4:45 yesterday afternoon 68 year old Linda J. Bartley escaped serious injury in a single car accident on county road NE2504. According the the MSHP report the eastbound 2007 Dodge Caliber driven by Bartley ran off the left side of the roadway, struck a tree and came to a rest on its side.

Ms. Bartley was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
