Some light rain and sleet has been reported around the area, especially to the north. However we'll see clearing skies overnight with sunshine the next few days.

No Sutherland's in Butler

Lots of buzz about new Butler businesses and other changes to come:

The mystery behind what the future holds for the old Walmart building on west 52 highway has been revealed. The building has been purchased by Wilson Tire Company of Butler and Nevada, Mo. The Wilson family has told FM 92 radio station that they would use part of the building to re-locate Wilson Tire and lease the remainder to anyone interested in using the building. Alas, no Sutherlands, as an ongoing rumor now has been squelched. As an added note, the Wilson's are receptive to leasing space to be used as a strip mall.

Future home of Angelo's Italian Restaurant
While a sluggish economy might normally dictate the closing of doors, the exact opposite seems to be happening in Butler right now. Even before construction of the new Walmart super center was complete, plans were already in place for yet two more new Butler businesses, both of which have chosen to make a home on 'the strip'. Angelo's Italian Restaurant will soon occupy the old Glen's Cafe building offering a wide variety of classic Italian favorites. Just a half block to the north you'll find the Bucking Bull Restaurant and Bar featuring meats from Briarwood Farms of Butler. Both new eateries will be open in the near future with grand opening dates to be announced.

No longer a saloon- the Bucking Bull offers fresh

Another coffee shop topic was the rumor that Applebee's was 'breaking ground' at an empty lot on Fran Ave... FM 92 radio station contacted those in-the-know at the Applebee's headquarters in Overland Park Ks. to receive this reply "New restaurants are on file for any new facility locations for 60 days out". In plain-speak, there was not a ground breaking and there are no plans in the near future (or at least in the next 60 days) to build an Applebee's in Butler.

In other local business news you'll find the former Pet ur Bait location vacant as the Huey's are moving their operation to a larger facility- the former Grizzell's building just south of the stop light. We'll provide more info when the move is completed.
