Butler Police Department activity report

Jan. 24th - Suspicious person at Walmart; alarm at Family Center; theft report taken in the 100 block of S. Fulton; suspicious person on Business 71.


Jan. 25th - Well being check in the 500 block of W. Ohio; accident in the 500 block of W. Nursery; walk in car theft report taken; medical assist at Pathways; warrant arrest in the 300 block of W. Chestnut; suspicious person in the 500 block of N. Fulton; disturbance in the 100 block of S. Main.

Hat Day A Hit With Second Graders...

On Friday, January 20th Butler Elementary Second Graders celebrated Hat Day.  Some of the activities that were done with the hats were, description papers, a hat guessing game, and a story about a paper hat they colored.  As you can tell, Mrs. McLain's Class brought in a lot of terrific hats!

Cover Crops Tour February 16...

Interested in using cover crops to improve your soil health? Come out to the cover crops tour at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, to view tillage radishes, ryegrass and crimson clover. The tour, held by University of Missouri Extension, will be held at the Steve Cubbage farm near Nevada. From Nevada, go east on Austin Blvd., go under 71 Highway and continue east 1 1/2 mi. on Old Town Road. At 1900 Road, go left or north and the field day will be on the west side of the road. In case of bad weather, call the University of Missouri Extension Center at 417-448-2560. Bad weather date is February 21 at 10 a.m.

Obituary - Joyce Young

Joyce S. (Robinson) Young, 75 of Kansas City, KS, passed away January 30, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Edwardsville, KS.

Joyce was born May 24, 1936 in Kansas City, MO, daughter of Maurice S. and Susanna (Yarick) Robinson. She attended school and graduated from Drexel High School, Drexel, Mo. She was united in marriage to Charles R. Young on November 23, 1962 at the Drexel Christian Church. To this union, two children were born.

Joyce was a homemaker and her family remembers that she loved to sew. Other interests included camping, and floral arranging. She had attended the Drexel Christian Church, as well as the Edwardsville Christian Church.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Charles; her children, June Justice and husband Darrin of Kansas City, KS.; James Young and wife Kim of Kansas City, KS.; grandchildren Justin Justice and wife Heide; Jason Justice; Amanda Young; Jacoby Young; and Melanie Young. She is also survived by a brother, Robert Robinson, and two sisters, Mary Faulwell, and Martha Hunt. Joyce also leaves behind a special friend and caregiver, Christine Burger-McClure.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (816) 657-4400. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM prior to the service. Burial in Sharon Cemetery, Drexel. Memorial contributions in memory of Joyce are suggested to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation, and may be left in care of the funeral home. Hume Project Prom seeking donations

For the past 18 years the Hume R-VIII school has benefited the students in their community with an after prom program. This is a non-pro-fit organization, which benefits the Junior and Senior students as well as the underclassman. The Hume after prom program has been a huge success in the past years, with a 100% attendance.

Once again, the Hume after prom committee is asking for donations which will be used to purchase prizes and food for the evening.

Garage on fire in Amsterdam

Amsterdam and Adrian fire departments have been dispatched to a report of a garage on fire just North of the Amsterdam Cafe. No other information is available at this time- use caution and watch for emergency vehicles in the area.




A special gift from a very special person...

on display at Bates County Memorial Hospital
The family of Mary Bashor, R.N. donated a needlework piece that Mary made, to Bates County Memorial Hospital in her name. A ceremony was held at the hospital on Saturday, January 28, 2012. The dedication was attended by many of her co-workers, her children, grandchild, husband, and brother. The needlework memorial is placed on one of the walls on the 2nd floor nursing unit for all to see. Mary was a night R.N. Supervisor for many years and was respected and loved by all the staff who worked with her. Mary passed away in January, 2011.
