Obituary - Joyce Essenpries

Joyce Ann (Allen) Essenpries, 53, passed away suddenly on February 4, 2012 at her home in Adrian, MO. Graveside/memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joyce Essenpries Memorial Fund c/o Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, MO.

Joyce was born on July 14, 1958 in Butler, MO to Donald and Pat Allen. She graduated from Adrian High School in 1976 & went on to graduate from Nevada VoTech as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1978. She served as a nurse at Bates County Memorial Hospital and several area nursing homes, for as long as her health permitted, and was a member of the Adrian Christian Church.

Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Donald Allen and her maternal and paternal grandparents. She is survived by her two sons, Jerid (Kara) Essenpries of Archie, MO and Ryan (Brenna) Essenpries of Adrian MO. They blessed her with the pride and joy of her life, her 4 grandchildren, Tanner, Taylor, Tucker and Layla. She is also survived by her mother, Pat Allen of Butler, MO, sister, Patty (Kelly) Sieleman of Adrian, MO, brother, Donnie (Jana) Allen of Butler, MO, her beloved cat, “Sissy”, and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Obituary - Velma Cherry

Funeral services for Velma Cherry will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Brother Bill Perkey officiating. Visitation will be prior to services from 1-2 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions to Heartland Hospice.

Velma Cherry, age 102 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, February 4, 2012 at her home in Butler surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 14, 1909 to Albert Murry and Carronia Venetta Paden Good in Cherryvale, Kansas.

Velma is survived by three daughters, Louise Foster and husband Bob of Butler, Missouri, Julia Perkey and husband Bill of Rich Hill, Missouri and Kathy McCoy of Pleasanton, Kansas; one brother, Harold “Eldridge” Good of Wellsville, Kansas; special caregiver, Annie Cumpton; 11 grandchildren, David Foster and wife Susan, Denise Adams and husband Pete, Dana Maugans and husband Shawn, Daryl Foster and wife Dianne, Dustin Foster and wife Misty, Stephanie Adams and husband Jeff, Gretchen Wills and husband Robert, Jennifer Perkey-Ewing and husband Kevin, Daniel Gaston and wife Christina, Monte McCoy and Christopher McCoy; 23 great-grandchildren; and 9 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harry Cherry; one brother; and four sisters.

Quick meals on a lean budget...

Time is short and money is tight but it is still possible to quickly prepare well-rounded meals for your family. Two Meals for Ten Bucks, a Lunch & Learn with MU Extension, will be held at the Nevada Library at 218 W. Walnut on Thursday, February 8, between noon and 1 p.m. The program will be from 12:15-12:45. Tammy Roberts, nutrition and health education specialist with University of Missouri Extension office in Butler will demonstrate how you can make main courses for two meals at a cost of ten dollars. Participants will take home a brochure with the recipes and will sample each recipe in the brochure.

The class is free and participants bring their own lunch.

Medicalodge Fund Raiser for employees with cancer

Medicalodge will honor 3 employees in need of medical assistance and battling different cancers by a fundraiser through our local community. Tickets are being sold to win various prizes including a quilt, a salon basket, a full body massage, a $150 gift basket, $100 gas card, $100 Country Mart card, Royals tickets with parking pass, Butler Chamber of Commerce coupon books, Saddle Club Rodeo tickets and more.

Tickets are just $1 or get 6 for $5 and may be purchased at Medicalodge in Butler.

Drawing will be held on Thursday, March 1st.
