Large fire near Foster
Several local fire departments are responding to a mobile home fire just east of U highway on county road 5508. It is being reported that the fire has also spread to an outbuilding and there is a large grass fire as well. Units are now responding from the Amsterdam and Amoret areas as well; use caution if traveling in the area.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from midnight tonight
to 6 PM CST Monday.
* Location... west central to northwest Missouri and adjacent
areas of Kansas.
* Timing... light to moderate snow will begin to fall across the
region during the early morning hours of Monday. The heaviest
snowfall may occur during the morning commute. However... by Monday
afternoon... precipitation may change to or mix with freezing
drizzle.
* Total snow accumulations... of 1 to 3 inches are expected
across the region... primarily in the morning hours... but a
light glaze of ice is expected as the event comes to an end.
* Impacts... the heaviest snowfall is expected to be occurring
during the Monday morning commute... which will result in
difficult driving conditions. For the afternoon hours... any
additional snow... or any freezing drizzle... will continue to
make travel difficult.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow and freezing
drizzle will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for
snow and ice covered roads and limited visibilities... and use
caution while driving.

Minor injuries in two local accidents
Last night around 7 p.m. Misty M. Ford-Hooker, 28, and an infant, Madilyn J. Hall, escaped serious injury in an accident on route Z about 1 mile south of 18 highway. According to the report a 1995 Plymouth driven by Ford-Hooker was northbound on Z when it traveled off the right side of the roadway, continued some 400 feet and struck a culvert. Both were taken to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Around 5:30 this morning a Rockville man, Ricky Miller, 45, was westbound on route B east of Rich Hill when his 2002 Ford Ranger left the roadway while attempting to pass another vehicle. The Miller vehicle struck a culvert and came to a rest in the ditch. Miller was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Obituary - Eileen Shields
Eileen Shields, age 80 of Appleton City, formerly of Butler, Missouri died Friday, February 10 2012 at her daughter's home. She was born January 5, 1932 to Edward David and Christina Beulah Bell Jaerger in Council Grove, Kansas.
Eileen is survived by three sons, Robert P. Shields Jr. and wife Susan Lynn of Butler, Missouri, Phillip H. Shields of Harrisonville, Missouri, James "Jim" R. Shields and wife Kathy of Butler, Missouri; two daughters, Dawn Elizabeth Coleman and husband Ross of Appleton City, Missouri and Crystal Shields of Nevada, Missouri; three brothers, Edward Leon Jaerger and wife JoAnn Eloise of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Ronald Duane Jaerger and wife Pamela Jean of Wichita, Kansas and Steven Jaerger of Greely, Colorado; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Parker Shields Sr. in 2009.

Ribbon cutting for new track next Saturday...
The Butler Board of Education has set the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Butler Track for 11 am Saturday morning Feb. 18th. This date will mark the time when the public can begin using the facility. The Ribbon Cutting will be held at the track located on West Nursery Street in Butler. The Public and the Media are invited to attend.
