Warriors back in town April 7th

The West Central Warriors semi-pro football will return to Butler's Rotary Field on April 7th, as they face the Ozark Titans on home turf. Admission to the game is just $5 with kickoff time set for 6 p.m.

Word is, the Warriors are 'pumped up' after a season opener loss to the Mid Missouri Regulators last week- come see the game and plan on having lots of fun!

Obituary - Emmett Poister

Services for Emmett “Lyle” Poister will be held privately by the family. The public is invited to a time of fellowship and sharing at the United Methodist Church in Enterprise, Kansas: (308 Bridge Street, Enterprise, KS, 67441) from 11 AM to 2 PM Saturday, March 31, 2012. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the United Methodist Church of Enterprise, or Baby Lawson Nieder Love Fund for the great-great nephew of Lyle. Emmett Lyle Poister died Monday, March 26, 2012 in Butler, Missouri. Lyle was born July 14, 1933 in Enterprise, Kansas, son of Emmett and Rose (Barnett) Poister. He was united in marriage Nadine Kopf July 20, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Enterprise; she survives.

Bob Gunn Golf Tournament slated for April 15th

The 20th Annual Bob Gunn Golf Tournament is set for Sunday, April 15th and is sponsored by the Adrian Lions Club- a four person scramble to be held at the Butler Country Club.

There will be a $10,000 hole in one contest with 5 flights and 3 places. 1st place - $400.00, 2nd place -$240.00 and 3rd place, - $120.00, based on 36 teams.

Fire on west Ohio street in Butler last night

An attic fire at 513 W. Ohio in Butler was quickly
brought under control last night
Shortly before 10 p.m. last night the Butler Fire Department, along with Adrian Fire under mutual aid, was summoned to 513 W. Ohio street in Butler on a report of smoke coming from the upper part of the residence. Upon arrival, firefighters gained access to the attic space of the 2-story structure and quickly brought the fire under control.

The homeowners were at the residence when the fire broke out and escaped without injury.

Damage was contained to a portion of the attic. Crews were on the scene about two hours and the official cause of the fire is under investigation.

Obituary - Bill Divine



William "Bill" Taylor Divine, 83, Archie, MO, died Monday, March 26, 2012 at Benchmark Health Care in Harrisonville, MO. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

William was born July 2, 1928 in Iantha, MO, the son of Alfred Elgin and Alice Leona (Ball) Divine. He married Lois M. Larson on November 3, 1951. He had lived in Kansas City, MO and Independence, MO before moving to Archie in 1953. William opened Divine Real Estate in 1972. He was also a farmer, working until his retirement in 1984. He was WWII Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lois, one brother, Ernie and one granddaughter, Kira. He is survived by two sons, Jim Divine and wife, Carolyn, Archie, MO and Randy Jarvis and wife, Judy, Butler, MO; three sisters, Ann Berry, Tunas, MO, Louise Griswold, Independence, MO and Marilyn Hampton, Lee’s Summit, MO and four grandchildren.

Rich Hill man behind bars on child pornography charges

A tip to the Bates County Sheriff's Office led to the arrest of James S. Barker, 62, of Rich Hill for possession of child pornography found on his computer after serving a search warrant at his residence in Rich Hill on March 8th. The sheriff's department was assisted by the Western Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force in the investigation.

During a search of the home at 422 S. 5th St., the WMCCTF took custody of a computer and approximately 20 data storage devices, where an initial exam of the computer revealed multiple pictures of child pornography and child erotica.

The computer has been turned over to the Heart of America Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory and the data storage devices have been examined by the WMCCTF. So far more than 5,500 pictures have been identified as child pornography or child erotica. 

The investigation continues and more charges are expected to be filed by the Bates County Prosecutor, Hugh Jenkins.

Barker was transported to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Possession of Child Pornography with bond set at $250,000.00.

Copies of the child pornography have been sent to the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children. The Child Victim Identification Program assist law enforcement agencies in rescuing the child victim depicted in images from their abusers. “Until they are located and identified these children may continue to be abused,” says Sheriff Anderson. “Our first priority is to work with the experts in identifying these innocent children and preventing these horrific crimes of child pornography to continue.”

The Western Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force is a nine county task force serving the Metropolitan Kansas City, Missouri area. Bates County is included in the nine county regions. The three task force members that assisted were from the Platt County Sheriff’s Office and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Election results to be broadcast on FM 92.1

Polling places will be open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 3rd around the county- get out and exercise your right to vote. Results will be broadcast locally on FM 92.1 the Bullet beginning at 7:30 p.m. 

Results will also be posted on the KMOE web site and here on Bates County Live. A link to the results will be Tweeted and on Facebook as well.
