Buddy Bass Tournament April 21st...

The 8th Annual Buddy Bass Tournament will be fishing for a cure on April 21st. Grace Beshore has cystic fibrosis and she needs your help to raise money to fight this deadly disease. Team Grace will hold their 8th annual “Buddy Bass” tournament with all the proceeds going toward the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The winners of the tournament will receive some great prizes including NASCAR tickets.

The Buddy Bass Tournament will be held Saturday April 21st at 123 south 6th Street in Rich Hill. Entry is 40 dollars per two person team. Registration will be between 6 and 8 a.m. or by phone. Obituary - Raymond York

Funeral services for Raymond York will be 4:00 PM Wednedsay, April 11, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Butler, Missouri with Rev. Jack Daniels officiating. Visitation Tuesday evening, 6:30-8:00 PM at the Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660) 679-0009. Burial with military honors, Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler. Contributions to the First Christian Church or Butler Public Library.

Carl Raymond York, 94 of Butler died Friday, April 6, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Raymond was born March 15, 1918 in Ballard, Missouri, son of Arthur Monroe and Ida Mae (Zieler) York. He was united in marriage to Cleta Maurine Ghere October 1, 1939; and to this union, three children were born.

Raymond served in the U.S. Army and was proud to have driven a tank for three years during World War II. Together with his wife Cleta, he owned and operated Al-eta Fabrics in Butler for many years. He later served as city councilman and Mayor of Butler. Notably, Raymond’s brother Glen also served as Mayor of Butler, and the two were the only pair of brothers to ever hold the office. Raymond was a charter member of the original Butler Optimist Club, and had recently received his 50-year membership pin.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Cleta in 2005; a son, Greg; and one infant daughter, Raneta Sue.

He is survived by his daughter, Sheryl Fischer and husband Darrell of Butler; grandchildren Travis Fischer, and Heidi Tourtillott and husband Dylann of Rich Hill, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Dalton Fischer, Kylann Tourtillott and Katelynn Tourtillott; one brother, Lonnie Laverne York and wife Betty of Arlington, Tx.; one sister, Naomi Cummings of Nevada, Mo. He also leaves behind one brother-in-law, Donald Ghere and wife Gerry; nephew Jayce Ghere and wife Annie; nieces Jacque Como and husband Michael, Debbie Ghere, and Kelly Ghere; as well as many other nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A more complete obituary will be provided at the funeral service, and published when the information becomes available.

Another bridge closing in mid April

Currently the bridge on 18 highway about 1/2 mile east of Merwin is closed for replacement- now another bridge on 18 is going to be closed in the near future. The bridge, located about 3 miles east of Merwin (or 1-3/4 miles west of the CC highway intersection) is slated to close on April 16th for replacement as well.

Both bridges were built in the late 1940's and are in serious need of replacement. Each is expected to be closed 4 to 6 weeks depending on weather.

Passing of Judge John O'Bannon

HONORABLE JUDGE O'BANNON

From the office of the Bates County Coroner, Gary L. Schowengerdt: On Wednesday evening April 4th about 7:30pm the Bates County Ambulance was summoned to the residence of Retired Judge John O’Bannon in rural Butler. Judge O’Bannon was transported to the Bates County Memorial Hospital where he passed away at 8:20pm in the Emergency Room from an apparent heart attack. Judge O’Bannon was 72 years of age. Funeral services are pending and will be announced by the Dickey Funeral Home of Harrisonville and Garden City, MO.
