Gun & Knife show coming in May

The Adrian Optimist Gun and Knife Show dates are set for May 4th, 5th and 6th. The three day event will be held at the Adrian Optimist building with over 100 tables of merchandise on display. The knife cutting competition will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. If you would like to participate in the competition contact Jason Burton at 816-291-2308 or email burtonjasonk@yahoo.com. Special training is required prior to the event.

Admission will be $5.00 per person per day, with children under 10 years old admitted free of charge.
Show hours will be: Friday May 4th 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dates and times are also on the Bates County Live Community Calendar.

Obituary - Mistie Sinkhorn

Funeral services for Mistie Sinkhorn will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2012 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Pastor Ron Dunlap officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions to Humane Society or American Diabetes Association. 

Mistie Dawn Sinkhorn, age 40 of Butler, Missouri died Monday, April 9, 2012 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born June 18, 1971 to James Spencer and Rita Kay Craig Sinkhorn in Butler. Mistie is survived by her parents, Rita and Harvey Griffith of Butler, Missouri; one son, Colby Flanagan of Butler, Missouri; maternal grandmother, Thelma Craig of Butler, Missouri; three aunts, Karen Kenney and husband Steve of Butler, Missouri, Sandra Snider and husband Garry of Tightwad, Missouri and Linda Hatman and husband Jim of Texas City, Texas; three uncles, Tom Craig of Butler, Missouri, Richard Griffith of Adrian, Missouri and Fred Griffith and wife Martha of Atlanta, Georgia; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her biological father, James Sinkhorn in 1972 when Mistie was only a year old.

Warriors reminder...

The next West Central Warriors semi-pro football game at home is scheduled for April 28th at 6 p.m. The Warriors will face the Mills County Militia on Rotary Field in south Butler by the Aquatic Center.

Horseshoe pitching tournament May 19th

The Butler Masonic Lodge #254 has announced its 2nd Annual Horseshoe Pitching Tournament to be held at the Butler Lodge on Saturday, May 19th. Registration starts at 9:30 am and Tournament begins at 10 a.m.

WIC Continues for another year...

The Bates County Health Center has announced the continuation of WIC services for the Federal Fiscal Year 2013.

Under the terms of the contract through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Bates County will be able to serve 568 participants per month. Standards for eligibility and participation for Women, Infants and Children are the same for everyone regardless of race, color, national origin, age disability or sex.

Participants must meet financial guidelines and receive a health screening consisting of height, weight, and hemoglobin and diet history. A certified professional determines eligibility.

WIC clinics are held at the Bates County Health Center, 501 N Orange in Butler, and persons interested in applying or wanting more information can contact the office 660-679-6108.

Wayne Bishop, 89, Drexel, MO, died Monday, April 9, 2012 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville, MO. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 13 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, MO. Burial will be in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. Eddie Lee Dodds, age 90 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born May 9, 1921 to Lester Lee and Bessie Marie Domer in Rockville, Missouri. 

Eddie is survived by his wife, Wilma Marie Dodds of Butler, Missouri; one son, Jerry Dodds and wife Donna of Butler, Missouri; two daughters, Marylyn Engelhart and husband David and Janice Humphrey and husband Mike, all of Butler, Missouri; two sisters, Betty Babb and Tulare, California and Clarice Robinson and husband Joe of Butler, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Carol Dodds and Dodie Dodds, both of Tulare, California; eight grandchildren, Lori Koepsel and husband Kevin, Dana Megard and husband Dana, Wade Engelhart, Mindy Hubbard and husband Steve, Chad Humphrey, Jessie Magoffin and husband John, Cody Dodds and Wyatt Dodds; nine great-grandchildren, Tyler Koepsel, Kelsey Megard, Logan Megard, Lincoln Megard, Kendall Megard, Bram Hubbard, Noah Hubbard, Haven Humphrey and Jaxon Magoffin. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Marion, J.L., Jack, Dick and Frank.

Graveside memorial services for Margie (York) Lain will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler under the direction of the Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660) 679-0009. There will be no visitation.

Margie Marie (York) Lain was born February 18, 1916 in Ballard MO. She passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the age of 96, at the Gardens Care Center, Kingman AZ. Margie moved from the Butler, MO area to Kingman, AZ in 1963. She was employed by McCullough in Lake Havasu City AZ, Kingman Regional Hospital and the American Legion while living in Kingman. Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Monroe and Ida Mae (Zieler) York; 5 brothers, Herbert, Ervin, Glen, Billie and Ivan; 2 sisters, Artie Lippold and Delpha York. She is survived by 2 brothers, Raymond York of Butler MO, Lonnie (Betty) York of Arlington TX; 1 sister, Naomi Cummings of Nevada MO; 5 children, Myrna (Norm) Johnson of Scottsdale AZ, C.A. (Brenda) Lain of Marceline MO, Janice Edwards, Ideana Hickle, Jeanie Badilla/Rich Sibbitt of Kingman AZ; 9 grandchildren, Richard (Lisa) Johnson, Jim (Nancy) Johnson, Bob (Laura) Johnson, Vanessa (Chris) Hale, Deana (Jimmy) Cottle-Chunn, Stacey (Shawn) Hancock, Katie (Chad) Gardner, Larry Badilla, Monica Badilla; 20 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Margie was a lifetime member of the Ladies American Legion and the VFW.

A note from Margie’s children; at the time of Margie’s death her beloved brother Raymond York of Butler, MO was still living. He passed 8 days after Margie and will be missed dearly by all of us. RIP Mother and Uncle.
