Two teens hailed as heros for quick action this morning

At 12:07 a.m. today a fire broke out in a two story home at 210 W. Dakota street in Butler while seven people slept- but thanks to the quick actions of two teens, everyone escaped the fire that eventually consumed most of the structure.

Two adults were downstairs while five children upstairs were trapped by flames in the stairwell. 14 year old Dakota Hulse, who was spending the night, along with another teenager acted quickly by lowering the other children from a second story window onto a rooftop, then safely to the ground.

Dakota's mother Tiphane was quoted as saying "It's such a great relief and I'm glad everyone is safe, the house is demolished. I don't know how anybody survived. It's gone."

Of the seven in the house, two remain at the University of Kansas hospital including the 14 year old who helped Dakota get the others to safety.

The fire, still under investigation, is believed to have started in an electrical outlet.
