Bates County 4-H Council meets

“I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty…” so begins the pledge to the 4-H flag and begins another meeting of the Bates County 4-H Council. We met on April 9, 2012, with president, Alex Jenkins calling the meeting to order. The pledge to the American flag was led by Jack Rotert and the 4-H pledge was led by John Tarvin; both of the Summit Go-Getters 4-H. Morgan Bradley called the roll for clubs present. There were three clubs represented: Altona, Hudson Hustlers, and Summit Go-Getters. Our January 2012 meeting was cancelled, so no previous meeting minutes were read. Alex Jenkins read the treasurer’s report. Case Doody made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as read, with Blake Doody making the second.

Old business: Allison Jenkins gave a report on the Region Energizer that was held in January. Regional Energizer is open to all counties and its members within our region. It is a fun day filled with workshops and gaining knowledge. Taylor Fischer and Reba Colin reported on state horse judging. Bates County has the 1st place senior horse judging team and will advance on to the national competition hosted in Louisville, Kentucky, in November. Our junior team did very well too. David Warfield, Jr. made a motion that the County 4-H Council should make a donation per member on the senior team to help off-set their travel costs to Louisville since the State 4-H Council pays for their competition registration fees; Blake Doody issued the second. Motion passed.

New business: Jenny Oates told us about a day camp / workshops she will be having for kids at the Antique Tractor Village at Adrian. She is in the process of planting three gardens with historical roots and value. She will be hosting day camps and workshops the entire month of June and all kids are welcome to attend. Her contact information will be in the next issue of News & Notes. Alex Jenkins told us about upcoming work days at the fairgrounds. He also talked about other upcoming dates and deadlines for the upcoming fair season.

Mike Tarvin made a motion to adjourn the meeting; Taylor Fisher seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned.
