Camp will be held at the Butler Elementary School.

Obituary - Loren Dean Gunnels

Loren Dean Gunnels, 75, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 7 at the chapel. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Loren was born October 19, 1936 in Drexel, Missouri, the son of Earl Dean and Lillian LaVaun (Purkey) Gunnels. He married Patricia Ann Lynn on November 1, 1957. He served in the U. S. Army, driving a tank. Loren worked for Martin Marietta Aggregates in Greenwood, Missouri before retiring. Prior to that, he owned several full service gas stations and truck stops in the Harrisonville area.

He was a member of the Cass Masonic Lodge No. 147 in Harrisonville. He loved joking, giving advice and spending time with his family. Loren loved to travel, spending the last 5 years traveling in his RV. He particularly liked Arizona, Tennessee and Arkansas.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Patricia on April 2, 2007, two brothers, Ronald Dean Gunnels and Fred Gunnels (infant) and one sister, Wanda Gunnels. He is survived by one son, Bill Gunnels and his wife, Terri, Calhoun, Missouri; four daughters, Rebecca Hansen, Brenda Keeney and husband, Pat, Deana Fordyce and Rhonda Conran and husband, Tim, all of Harrisonville, Missouri; one brother, Merlin Gunnels, Drexel, Missouri; one sister, Corrine Lisher and husband, Ray, Lawrence, KS; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Gunnels, Drexel, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; and his companion, Carol Binder, Archie, Missouri.

Special meeting for Adrian City Council next Monday

I-49 upgrade causing problems for some by limiting access from county roads

Residents in an area located East of 71 highway and South of the city park have voiced concerns that the proposed closure of access from 71(I-49) to the outer road will result in extended driving distance to Adrian and access to the interchange, especially a problem with drifting roads in Winter. 

The special meeting will be at 6 p.m. next Monday, June 11 to further discuss a potential outer road that would run along the West side of the city lake. 

The regular monthly meeting will follow at 7 p.m.

Authorities search for subjects near Amsterdam

Bates County Live has learned that authorities were searching for two male individuals in the Amsterdam area early yesterday evening. The men were described as white with sunburns or tan, tattoos and possibly in their late 40's.

It is unknown who the men are or why they were being sought. More information will be posted is it becomes available.

Burn ban in effect

DUE TO THE FACT THAT CONDITIONS ARE RAPIDLY BECOMING HOT AND DRY, EFFECTIVE JUNE 5, 2012, THE BUTLER FIRE DEPARTMENT WILL ISSUE NO BURNING PERMITS IN THE CITY OF BUTLER UNTIL SIGNIFICANT MOISTURE IS RECEIVED.

ANY BURNING PERMITS THAT HAVE BEEN ISSUED AND HAVE NOT EXPIRED ARE REVOKED AS OF THIS DATE.

PERSONS UTILIZING GRILLS, OR PERSONS LIVING OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMNITS OF BUTLER WHERE BURNING WITHOUT A PERMIT IS PERMITTED ARE URGED TO USE EXTREME CAUTION.

NA/AA Meeting will be held on Monday nights starting June 11

Celebrate Recovery is a probation certified class for those needing or are required to attend AA or NA weekly meetings. The organization is lead by John Manning of Butler. The weekly meeting will be held this Friday night at 6:30 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Butler and will then be changed to Monday nights to accommodate anyone needed to attend the meetings.

Celebrate Recovery is qualified to sign NA/AA forms as proof of attendance. If enough people take advantage of the Monday night class, this will add another location in Butler instead of traveling to Garden City, Nevada, Harrisonville or Clinton. 

John is asking that those interested attend this 1 time orientation Friday night June 8th and then the class will be moved to Monday nights ( June 11th).
