Incentives for Enhanced Enterprise Zone now available

From the Butler city council meeting last night

The Butler City Council had a shorter-than-usual meeting this week... Alan Stauffacher, R-5 school superintendent has noted that the sidewalk in front of the elementary school needs repairs, and the Council will provide labor and equipment, to solve the problem.

Also, a resolution was approved to allow incentives for the Enhanced Enterprise Zone, which would help to entice industry and business into Bates County. We remind, however, that the overall approval of the plan is based on final ok of the Missouri Department of Economic Development. More on that county-wide plan as it develops.

In another action, the Council approved a Right-of-entry agreement with the County for the downtown improvement project, which involved allowing access by the contractor to the courthouse property, to allow for installation of the crosswalks and other work that is planned. This also needs approval of the Bates County Commission. The project is expected to go up for bidding this August.

And Code Enforcement Officer Jim Wheatley added at least nine more unsightly areas to the list that never ends. Among his duties were six tickets give out, and five that got court action, and three addresses are slated to be demolished.

The Butler City Council meets each 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, and visitors are welcome. Seven p.m., with entrance at the west door. And we remind that visitors must get there by seven, as that door is locked at that time, since there's no one available to allow entrance after the Council meeting begins.

Special meeting for Adrian City Council next Monday

I-49 upgrade causing problems for some by limiting access from county roads

Residents in an area located East of 71 highway and South of the city park have voiced concerns that the proposed closure of access from 71(I-49) to the outer road will result in extended driving distance to Adrian and access to the interchange, especially a problem with drifting roads in Winter.

The special meeting will be at 6 p.m. next Monday, June 11 to further discuss a potential outer road that would run along the West side of the city lake.

The regular monthly meeting will follow at 7 p.m.
