Local authorities initiated a search this morning for a four year old boy who wandered away from home in Adrian but he was later found unharmed.
The search parties included the Adrian fire and police departments, and others from Butler and Cass county were in route when the boy was found.
The boy, who has speech and hearing impairments, was returned to his family around 9 a.m.

VBS coming to Calvary Baptist Church in Adrian
Hey kids, ages 4 years through 6th grade, the Calvary Baptist Church, located at 100 S. Mulberry Street in Adrian, is having a special summer event! Beginning Monday through Friday, July 16th to July 20th, from 9 AM – 11:45 AM, we will be enjoying a week of Vacation Bible School with the theme, “Bug Zone, Transformed by Our Big God!” and you are invited to come!
There will be Bible story time, singing fun songs, puppets, creative crafts, exciting games, delicious snacks, daily contest challenges and you definitely want to meet Dr. Buzz, our special guest each day!
On Saturday, July 14th from 10 AM to Noon, we will have a time of pre-registration at the church. Come early and get ready for a great week of summer fun at Vacation Bible School! If you come for the pre-registration, you will earn an extra 1,000 points, a special prize, enjoy a cool, refreshing slush, and watch the puppets. You will also get a glow in the dark bug that if you bring that back on the first day of Bible School you will get an additional 500 points! If it’s not too hot there will be pony rides too!

Power outage affects many in northern Bates County
A fire at a substation caused a power outage that affected some 1,400 KCP&L customers primarily in Adrian and Archie for several hours this morning, causing much concern as the heatwave continues.
While repair crews were unable give a solid estimate on when the power might be restored, the Adrian fire department along with the Butler fire department began making plans to assist in moving residents of the Adrian Manor to the Optimist building, should Manor administration have chosen to evacuate the building.
Fortunately, the power came back on around 11:45 a.m. and as soon as it was confirmed to stay on by KCP&L officials, any plans to move Adrian Manor residents were cancelled.
According to statistics found on the web, it is not unusual for there to be 'rolling blackouts' or equipment failures as the temps rise and usage increases.

In the legislature, a Senate or House Joint Resolution can be offered by a lawmaker to bring attention to a certain topic and to open discussion. After debate, if the resolution is adopted, the question it poses will be placed on an election ballot as a constitutional amendment to be voted on by the people. Last year, a House Joint Resolution, HJR 2, was adopted and will be on the ballot on Aug. 7. I joined my fellow senators in supporting this amendment when it passed the Senate unanimously.
Labeled Constitutional Amendment 2, the language that will appear on the ballot asks “Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to ensure:
· That the right of Missouri citizens to express their religious beliefs shall not be infringed;
· That school children have the right to pray and acknowledge God voluntarily in their schools; and
· That all public schools shall display the Bill of Rights of the United States Constitution.”

Manhunt ends with one suspect held at gunpoint by homeowners
On July 4th at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Bates County Sheriff’s Office initiated a vehicle pursuit on US 71 Hwy south of Rich Hill. The vehicle being pursued was a black Chevrolet Pickup truck with three occupants. The vehicle traveled onto county gravel roads with speeds in excess of 90 mph. The vehicle pursuit continued throughout rural Rich Hill and into Vernon County.
During the pursuit one male, identified as Bob T Beisly III age 38, exited the vehicle and ran into a wooded area. The vehicle then continued south with a secondary driver running a vehicle off the road turning the vehicle onto its side in the ditch. The vehicle then continued south almost striking two four wheelers. During the pursuit the vehicle had jumped a bridge becoming airborne and landing in the roadway. The pursuit eventually returned to US71 hwy traveling southbound. The vehicle pulled to the shoulder of the road and two subjects began to run on foot. The driver, identified as Jimmy Joe Crews age 40, was taken into custody after being tackled on the slow lane of US 71. The passenger, identified as Brent D. Morrison age 37, was chased approximately 25 yards into the ditch and taken into custody.
Once the subjects were in custody they identified Bob Beisly III as the subject that ran on the gravel road. Beisly was wanted out of Vernon County for felony assault on a case where he reportedly drove a tractor over a car that was occupied by an adult male and a juvenile. Beisly also has a prior conviction for unlawful use of a firearm as a felon.
A decision was made to consider Mr. Beisly as armed and dangerous. A Nixle alert was sent out to residents to advise them of the pending manhunt in the area asking for residents to be cautious. Approximately 2 hours after the initial pursuit residents began calling advising the Sheriff’s Office that a male subject was approaching them asking to use the phone. At approximately 11:30 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident stating that a male had walked up and offered them a $100 for a ride to Vernon County. The residents then held him at gun point until deputies arrived to take him into custody.
All three subjects were arrested and charged with resisting arrest by fleeing in a dangerous pursuit and one subject was charged with Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.
Additional Charges are expected to be filed in Vernon County. All three subjects remain in the custody of the Bates County Sheriff’s Office on $10,000 cash only bonds.

Safety Village starts July 23rd
Sign ups will be Sunday, July 22nd, at the Old High School from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with Safety Village running the week of Monday, July 23rd, to Friday, July 27th. A morning or afternoon session is available. SV is sponsored by the Bates Co. Elks and is free to any child who is four or five years old during the week of SV. Please bring your child with you to sign ups so that he/she can meet his/her teen leader and take a tour of Safety Village. We look forward to seeing you there!!
