Walter Hearting Honored at Missouri 4-H Hall of Fame
Making the best better for generations of Missouri 4-H’ers, the late Walter Hearting of Appleton City joined the Missouri 4-H Hall of Fame, held August 18 at State Fair Community College.
According to 4-H Youth Specialist Alan J. Mundey, “It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Walter Hearting of Appleton City gave his life to 4-H—he dedicated 50 years to working with Bates County 4-H kids. Walter worked with Hudson Hustlers 4‑H members as a project leader, but for most of a half-century, Walter was the ‘official’ 4-H bus driver. When kids needed a ride to camp, Walter and his big yellow bus were there. When 4-H’ers needed a ride to Columbia for a state event, Walter had his bus gassed and ready to go. Bates County 4-H is extremely proud of Walter for his dedication to our youth.”
The Missouri 4-H Foundation recognizes individuals who have created a legacy of service to 4-H by honoring them with membership in the Missouri 4-H Hall of Fame. “These leaders have made exceptional contributions to the lives of Missouri 4-H members,” said Missouri 4-H Foundation Executive Director Cheryl Reams.
Hall of Fame inductees from 43 counties established a legacy totaling 1,625 years of service to 4‑H. Family members and friends attended the sixth annual event.
