Many 'drop in' for Aviation Day 2012

| A special treat was seeing and hearing a vintage Cessna 190 with radial engine roaring skyward |
The consensus was FINALLY there was good weather for the annual Aviation Day festivities at the Butler Memorial Airport. In fact, moderate temps and low humidity made for perfect conditions as aircraft of all types were on display including a couple of Ercoupes, several Bonanza's, an Aztec or two, plenty of Piper's, a somewhat rare Cessna 190 (at left), a bright green Bellanca, sport models and more- just about every popular make of plane was represented today.
Due to a mechanical issue, Johnny Rowlands did not make an appearance, however there is talk that he will be back in November to make good on the helicopter rides as promised.
Along with lunch and live music by Irene Holt, Skydive Kansas City performed a group jump from 15,000 feet with several landing on the grass alongside the spectators.

| There were plenty of kit planes including this sport model that drew a lot of attention from young and old alike |
![]() |
| Last minute instructions for Skydive KC members. Unfortunately, the circle maneuver holding hands was not performed possibly due to high winds aloft. |
![]() |
| The workings of a gyrocopter are being discussed. Shortly after there was a fantastic display of the agility of the machine and piloting skills combined |

| A brightly colored chute brings another jumper back for a safe landing within mere feet of spectators |
