Amsterdam Fire Department Open House during Jubilee this weekend...
The Amsterdam Fire Department is proud to announce that improvements to the firehouse are complete and the public is invited to stop by during the Jubilee celebration this Saturday and take a look around. Four new garage doors were added on the west side for easier access to emergency vehicles and as seen here, a new addition on the east side provides ample space for a meeting/training area.
Throughout the day the public is invited to stop by for tacos and baked goods being sold as a fundraiser for the department as well.
Butler Bears vs Holden Eagles Jr High Football Summary
On Thursday, Sept 13, the Butler Bears junior high football team hosted the Holden Eagles for their first game of the season. The Bears lost a competitive game by a final score of 6-16. The Bears jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. QB Kaleb Kauffman led a 42 yard offensive drive following his own 22 yard interception return on defense. Kauffman scored with a 10 yard quarterback keeper to finish the drive. The Bears offense failed to find the endzone the rest of the game, however. The Bears defense gave up a long run for a touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the first half, trailing 6-8 at halftime.
Despite a couple of long yardage plays, the Bears defense played strong throughout most of the game, capitalizing on four Holden turnovers and stopping several Holden drives deep into Bear territory. Defensively, LB Dylan Morris led the Bears with 8 tackles, 3 solo and 5 assisted tackles. DB Austin Cooper, LB Kaleb Kauffman, and LB Tanner Diehl all had interceptions on defense for the Bears. LB Tanner Diehl also had a fumble recovery, gaining 30 yards on the return. The Eagles still managed another late score in the 4th quarter, converting their second PAT, leaving the final score of 16-6.
The Bears host the Sherwood Marksmen next at home on Monday, Sept 17, at 5 pm.
