Hume News from Karen Irwin
The Hume United Methodist Church held their Annual Lord’s Acre Day Barbecue and Auction on November 3. The day was absolutely awesome with great food, lots of fun, fellowship and visiting with friends. The men once again did an outstanding job on the meat. Thank you to Geno Franklin for doing such a great job at the auction. An assortment of items such as home baked goods, homemade items, hay donated by Bogan Farms and the quilt made by Oleta Davidson and Wilma Coffman were among the many items auctioned off.
Mrs. Davidson and Mrs. Coffman spent a total of 197 hours on the quilt. It was a beautiful quilt with the inscription on the back “The Last Quilt”. The quilt was purchased by Joann Laughlin for $1200.00. These ladies have been making quilts for many, many years. At age 91, Mrs. Davidson decided this would be the last one. Thank you for all the years you ladies have put into making the beautiful quilts for the Lord’s Acre Day Auctions.
We will once again be having a Hume Community Choir for Christmas. If you love to sing and would like to join us, we will start practices on Monday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the music room at the Hume School. We will be giving a concert in conjunction with Santa Claus stopping by Hume for a visit to young and old alike in December.
Paxton Wooldridge, son of Ryan and Cathie Wooldridge celebrated his third birthday with a swim party at the YMCA in Nevada followed by a hot dog dinner with all the trimmings, cake & ice cream at the Moore Few Community Room in Nevada. Those attending from Hume were; Meme and Papa Irwin, Carrie Irwin, Michala & Marissa Lantsberger, Lane Irwin, Vicki Maynard and granddaughter, Allie, Jamei Harris, Makinzie, Kennidi, Abby & Nate; plus a host of family and friends from the Nevada, Moundville areas. Paxton turned 3 on November 6. Happy Birthday, Paxton.
Don’t forget the Veteran’s Day Tribute at the Hume School on Monday, November 12 at 1:00 p.m. All Veteran’s are invited to attend as well as the public in honoring them for the service to our country.

Mobile home fire in Amoret this morning
Amoret and Amsterdam fire departments were called to a mobile home reported to be on fire this morning just north of Bowers store in Amoret. The home was a total loss and there are no reports of injuries to the family living there.
Crews reported the fire to be out around 6 a.m. An unconfirmed report is the cause may have been by a space heater.

Chili Cook Off a tasty success...
The Butler Area Ladies’ Ministries chili cook off was a great success. All the proceeds go to benefit the Butler Christian Ministerial Alliance. Those competing were Heartland of Willowlane, Calvary Baptist Church, Church of the Nazarene, First Assembly of God, Butler Area Ladies’ Ministries and Barbara and Cameron Herrell (with vegetable soup).
Best chili of the night was Calvary Baptist Church, 2nd was Heartland of Willowlane and First Assembly of God came in third. Calvary Baptist Church also took top honors in the booth decoration.
The amount raised for Butler Christian Ministerial Alliance was equal to 200 bowls of chili. Plans for next years cook off are in the works.

Adrian woman hurt in accident this morning
Around 11 a.m. this morning 22 year old Patricia A. Gains of Adrian recieved moderate injuries in northeast Bates County on county road 15504 near 8003. According to the MSHP report filed by Sgt. Gach, Gains was westbound when she lost control of her 2006 Chrysler that traveled off the left side of the roadway and came to a rest in a creekbed.
Gains was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment. The report maintains the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Bates 4-H Horse Judging Team Ranks High at Nationals
(BUTLER, MO – November 5, 2012) - The Bates County 4-H Horse Judging team consisting of Reba Colin, Daisy Miller, Wylie Miller and Taylor Fischer represented the state of Missouri at the Eastern National 4-H Horse Round-up in Louisville, KY, Nov. 2-4, 2012, and finished 8th overall. The team was 10th place in reasons and 4th in performance.
Taylor Fischer captured the individual overall Reserve Grand Champion trophy. Taylor was 2nd in performance and 10th in halter.
A special thank you goes to Cody Franklin for coaching the Bates County team.
Thanks to the support and dedication of our leaders and parents the Missouri 4-H Equine youth have become nationally recognized for their proficiency in content and positive character.
