Bates County Live will post the Official Fire Report from Fire Chief Jim Henry when it is available. No Injures except for a dog who was in the house at the time of the fire.
Local Butler Wrestler nominated for wrestler of the week
Trey Heckadon 17 yr old Junior at Butler High School has been nominated by MissouriWrestling.com as wrestler of the week. Trey recently had a injury and was cleared to wrestle on January 4th. Since his return he has won both events he has participate in the first one being a Dual at Truman High School and a Tournament at Warsaw High School. 2 Medalists at Butler Tournament 1/5/13
On Saturday, Jan 5, the Butler Bears hosted
the annual Butler Invitational Wrestling Tournament. The Bears did have two tournament medalists,
Tayje Van Voorst at 138 lbs (4th) and Robert Anderson at 285 lbs (3rd).
Tournament teams included Butler, Diamond,
Hogan Prep, Holden, Knob Noster, Lathrop, Rogers (AR), St Mary’s, and Trenton.

Update on Saturday Standoff in Butler
On Saturday, January 12th at approximately 1pm the Butler Police Department along with the Bates County Sheriff’s office received a call for a well being check in the 700 block of North Havana. Officers were informed that the subject was suicidal and was armed. Butler Police along with the Bates County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Missouri Highway Patrol responded to the area and after approximately 3 hours a male subject exited the house and was taken into custody.
The Butler Police Department would like to thank the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri Highway Patrol for their assistance in this matter.

Ohio man injured in crash (Update on Semi Crash)
John Stashinko 64, of Niles, Ohio received minor injuries when the 2012 Navistar semi he was driving was attempting to get onto I-49 after stopping on the right side of the shoulder of the roadway, The vehicle begin to slide off the roadway due to inclement weather, Then overturned and slide down an embankment, The vehicle came to rest on it's right side. The accident was worked by Bates County EMS, Bates County Sheriff and Bates County fire and Rescue as well as Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Patricia "Patty" Louise Reece, 78, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Monday, January 14, 2013 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville. Funeral services are pending at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.
Obituary - Jennifer Lee Middaugh
Jennifer Lee Middaugh, 63, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 17 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery in Creighton, Missouri.
Drug Bust in Drexel
On 1/4/2013, members of the
CNET Drug Taskforce and the Bates County Sheriff’s Office concluded a several
month long investigation that spanned two states by converging on a residence
in rural Drexel, Missouri. During a
search of the residence the agencies were able to seized a residential
marijuana grow operation believed to be in operation for the last several years. 52 high quality marijuana plants were
seized along with several pounds of processed marijuana ready for sale. Along with the marijuana, several thousand dollars’
worth of equipment used in the operation was seized. The equipment seized included industrial
lighting, ventilation system and the temperature control systems.
Estimated street value of
the Marijuana is in excess of $100,000
