2013 Butler Library Wish List


The Butler Public Library has released their wish list for 2013. The Butler Library is a not –for- profit private corporation which exists primarily on the generosity of the community. The day-to-day operation of the library is dependent upon our community to succeed and continue to be a service for our community.
The 2013 wish list consists of the need for monetary donations for the purchase of magazine subscriptions, new blinds for the community room. There is a need for 9 chair mats, 5-6 foot tables, an oscillating stand fan and contributions to help fund Story Hour and the Summer Reading Program.

Price Increase in Stamps

 The Butler Post Office notifies you that the price of stamps will increase to 46 cents. This change will become in effect Monday January 28th.

Obituary - Garold Woodard Whitehead

Garold Woodard Whitehead, 94, Adrian, Missouri, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, January 28 at Altona Baptist Church in Altona, Missouri. (No visitation). Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian.

Obituary - Gary Parks


Funeral services for Gary Parks will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Mullinax Funeral Home in Butler, Missouri (660) 679-0009 with Pastor Mark Dareing officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening, 5-7 PM at the funeral home. Burial in West Point Cemetery, Amsterdam, Missouri. Contributions may be made to the family. Gary Lynn Parks, 60 of Amoret, Missouri passed away January 22, 2013. He was born December 16, 1952 in Selma, Alabama, son of Wilbur Lynn Parks and Genevea Maxine (Powell) Dunlap.

Gary spent most of his childhood in Appleton City and Grandview, Missouri. He joined the service in January of 1970. While stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia in 1971, he met Suzan Bienefeld; they were married in 1972 in Dillon, South Carolina. Shortly afterward, the couple moved to Germany, where Gary was stationed and their first child was born.

After three years, they returned to the States and resided in Missouri. Gary began working as a Union laborer, and later became a Union plumber, which he continued until retirement. During that time, Gary and Suzan built a family of six children. In his spare time, Gary enjoyed fishing, horseshoe pitching, cooking, and especially loved classic movies. He was a good man who loved helping others in need. Gary loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, attending sporting events including football and baseball games. Gary’s family describes that when everyone was gathered at the family home, there was much cooking, humor, and plenty of joyful noise.

During his later years, Gary lived for his grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, John Adam Parks. He is survived by his wife Sue of Amoret; daughter Jennifer Hoffman of Amoret; son Jason and wife Joanne of Cape Coral, Florida; son Jesse and wife Miranda of Archie, Missouri; son Jeston and wife Jennifer of Branson, Missouri; and daughter Julie Parks of Amoret; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kevin and Todd Gerstner, both of Kansas City, Missouri; step-father Otis Leon Dunlap of Montrose, Missouri. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Gary leaves behind a tremendous number of friends who will miss him dearly.

Obituary - Frances "Fran" D. Ferguson


  Frances “Fran” D. Ferguson, 90, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 25 at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
Fran was born April 29, 1922 in Jerome, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John and Anna (Williams) Donahue. She grew up in the West Plains, Missouri area and moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1970. She moved to Harrisonville in 1980.

  Fran worked as a supervisor for International Shoe Company in West Plains, Missouri, from 1953-1970. After she moved to Kansas City, Fran worked for Smith RPM in Overland Park, Kansas, retiring in 1990. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville and the Harrisonville VFW Auxiliary.

  Fran was preceded in death by her parents, 8 brothers and sisters, and one son, James D. Ferguson who was killed in Vietnam in 1968. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Miller and husband, Clint, Harrisonville, Missouri and Vickie Sibbitt, Palmdale, California; three sisters, Katherine Ward, Springfield, Missouri, Anna Mathies of Delaware and Peggy Donahue of Florida; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Gary Weers, born December 16, 1953 passed away January 22, 2013 at Golden Years Nursing Home,  Harrisonville, Missouri. He was born the son of Ernest and Grace Weers in Bucyrus, Kansas and at the age of 6 moved to a farm west of Amsterdam, Missouri. Gary graduated from Miami High School, Amsterdam, Mo., in 1971.
Gary enjoyed fishing, gardening, refinishing furniture and traveling. He was employed in the construction business and was an U.S. Army veteran. Gary professed salvation on March 12, 1981 at Calvary Baptist Church in Adrian, Mo.
Gary was ill for many years, but still enjoyed meeting and talking to people.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Norma Hicks. He is survived by five children. Daughters Miranda, Grace, Goldie, Sarah and son Caleb. He is also survived by ten siblings. Brothers Robert (wife Bernice), Ernie (wife Sherry), Arnold (wife Mary Jo) and George (wife Mickey); Sisters Delores Baert, Rosemary Orr, Joyce (husband Junior) Yzquierdo, Lavene (husband David) St. Clair, Deeanna (husband Jim) Ridley and Gaylee (husband Ron) Lund.
Gary will be greatly missed by a host of family and friends.

  Marvel Braun, age 101 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Willow Lane Nursing Center in Butler. She was born April 10, 1911 to Perry and Dorla Miller Alderson in Pond Creek, Oklahoma.


  Marvel is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Simonin of Butler, Missouri; one brother, Ed Alderson and wife Eleanor of St. Petersburg, Florida; two grandsons, Terry Simonin and wife Myda of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Tom Simonin and wife Bridget of Butler, Missouri; eight great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Logan Braun in 1987; one brother, G.A. Alderson; and one sister, Helen Hall

STORM SPOTTER CLASS
