PERSONAL PROPERTY ASSESSMENT LISTS DUE MARCH 1st

Bates County Assessor, Roger Pruden, reminds property owners, including businesses, they must report all personal property owned or held on January first to the Assessor’s Office by March 1, 2013. Those who do not return a completed list to the assessor by the deadline may be subject to a penalty ranging from $10 to $100 depending on the value of the property. The statutes provide the assessor with almost no discretion to waive the penalties.

In January, a form was mailed to every Bates County property owner that reflected the assessor’s records. This form must be filled out and returned to the Assessor’s office which reports taxable personal property. If you have not received a form, or lost the original form, contact the assessor’s office at 660-679-3157 and a new one will be sent to you. Make sure it reaches the Assessor’s office by March 1st.

Possible HUGE Storm next week

By now, you've probably heard something about a potential MAJOR winter storm by Wednesday and Thursday. Here is our first post about this potential storm. First of all, there remains a HIGH level of uncertainty as this storm is still about 3500 miles to our Northwest in the Pacific Ocean. However, there IS reasonable agreement within the forecast data to indicate a large portion of the central United States will see wintry precipitation and some of it could be significant Wednesday night through Friday. There are also indications that impacts from this storm could stretch from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico. Locally, it's still FAR TOO EARLY to determine exact amounts of snow, ice, sleet, or rain that will fall with this system.

All we ask, however, is that you begin to monitor your local forecast now in preparation of this potential storm and become informed since we still have 4-5 days to go.
