Obituary - Betty Jane Shannon


Betty Jane Shannon, 88, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Private family burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer .

Betty was born October 7, 1924 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Paul Baker and Irma Jewel (Greene) Waddell. She was a 1942 graduate of Wyandotte High School. Betty was a member of the Foxy Ladies Red Hats in Harrisonville.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clarence, one daughter, Catherine Mack, one brother, Robert Waddell and one son, David Shannon. She is survived by two sons, Phillip T. Shannon and wife, Karen, Overland Park, Kansas and Paul T. Shannon, Goodyear, Arizona; two daughters, Deborah Shannon, Harrisonville, Missouri and Suzy Ward, Denver, Colorado; 6 grandchildren, Stacy Johnson (David), Michael Shannon (DeeDee), Sean Shannon (Cathy), Paul Hindley (Courtney), Jeremy Cook, Jeffrey Goldman (Julie) and 6 great-grandchildren, Micayla, Dakota, Bryce, Taylor, Hailey and Esther.

Miami School Closed Thursday and Friday

Miami R-1 has canceled classes for Thursday, February 28 & Friday, March 1st.  Outer Roads are somewhat impassable and we are putting safety first.

Lyle L. Atkinson, 70 of Butler, Missouri passed away February 26, 2013 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.  Lyle was born January 25, 1943 in Harrisonville, Missouri, son of Morris L. and Virginia M. (Adams) Atkinson.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Judith Atkinson of Butler; son Lyle Atkinson, Jr. of Warrensburg, Missouri; daughter Lori Hackett and husband Henry of Independence, Missouri; son Rusty Atkinson and wife Paulette of Dallas, Texas; daughter Amy Norton and husband Ivan of Ozark, Missouri; son Tony Atkinson and wife Andrea of Yukon, Oklahoma; as well as one sister, Shirley Ann Boucher and husband Dennis of Archie, Missouri.  He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Benefit Dinner Still on Schedule



Evelyn Wisdom Hoover lost her fight with cancer a few days ago. So The benefit dinner and auction will still be held at Amoret Community Center on March 17th. Your donations and purchases will be appreciated and used to defray the cost of medical expenses.
