Lasting Effects of Recent Winter Storms:
MoDOT Crews Continue Work to Combat Drifting Snow And Downed Mailboxes
Bates, Benton, St. Clair & Henry Counties -- Snow-clearing crews in west-central Missouri are working to combat drifting snow and replace downed mailboxes as time allows, said the Missouri Department of Transportation.
MoDOT crews are traveling state routes looking for areas where winds have caused snow to drift back across the roadway.
In other areas, crews are checking on lesser traveled routes, pushing snow further off the road surface to help widen them to two full driving lanes. During the height of the recent storms, crews did their best to keep at least one lane open on lesser traveled roads.
Many mailboxes were downed by plows as they pushed snow off the roadway. MoDOT is urging property owners to be patient as crews work to replace the downed mailboxes. This process could take several days to complete.
MoDOT crews will replace each downed mailbox with a United States Postal Service-approved mailbox and post. More elaborate mailboxes must be replaced by property owners.
