Butler Streets Closed
The City of Butler will have Water Street from Pine to Harrison in Butler closed for a little while today as they do some sewer work in that area please use alternate travel. No word on how long they will be closed.
New Butler Superintendent
The Butler R-V School District would like to announce the selection of Mr. Darin Carter as the new superintendent.
Mr. Carter joins the district after spending nearly all of his educational career at Republic R-III School District. He also spent one year at the Ozark School District as an assistant principal.
At Republic, Mr. Carter has worked for the district in several capacities, including a paraprofessional, classroom instructor, assistant principal, and for the last 5 years as a building principal. He has had the pleasure to work in a rapidly growing district and has been the principal in buildings ranging from student populations of 550 to just over 1,000.
On his desire to move to Butler, Mr. Carter stated “I am very honored and pleased to be given the opportunity to serve the school district and community. Not only was I impressed with the district and its dedication to students, but also with the town itself and the signs of a progressive environment that values its students and staff"
Darin and his wife, Michelle, have three children. Brady, who is 13, Callie, who is 7, and Jesse, who will turn four this summer.
Mr. Carter has earned his bachelor’s degree from Drury University in Springfield, MO, his master’s degree from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, and has worked on his Doctorate in Educational Leadership through Saint Louis University.

Obituary - Doris Hutchinson
Funeral services for Doris Hutchinson will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Evangelist Bill McLaughlin officiating. Visitation will be prior to services from 1-2 p.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions to Continua Hospice.
Doris Mae Hutchinson, age 87 of Blue Springs, Missouri, formerly of Butler, Missouri died Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Monterey Park Nursing Home in Independence, Missouri. She was born September 21, 1925 to Ira and Clara Edith May Creveling in Foster, Missouri.
Doris is survived by her son, Ira Edwin Hutchinson of Searcy, Arkansas; one daughter, Vivian Hoffman and husband Buzz of Blue Springs, Missouri; five grandchildren, Eddie Hoffman of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kyle Hoffman and wife Tiffney of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Doug Hoffman and wife April of Oak Grove, Oklahoma, Ira Edwin Hutchinson Jr. and wife Tokako of Berryville, West Virginia and Stacy Edmundson and husband Joe of Andover, Kansas; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edwin “Hutch” Hutchinson; and two brothers, Bill and Marion Creveling.

Charles Wayne Reid, 90, Peculiar, Missouri, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville, Missouri. Wayne Buford Kershner, age 72 of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Butler, Missouri, died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. He was born September 12, 1940 to Stanley Buford and Naomi Marie Arnold Kershner.
Wayne is survived by his wife Carol Kershner of Tucson, Arizona; his mother, Naomi Kershner of Butler, Missouri; two daughters, Vicki Kershner and Toni Huber, both of Butler, Missouri; six grandchildren, Jason McCoy and wife Heather of Archie, Missouri, Brittany Dawn and husband Brett of Butler, Missouri, Missy McCoy of Archie, Missouri, Colton Huber of Butler, Missouri, Morgan McCoy of Kansas City, Missouri and Dakota Huber of Reno, Nevada; seven great-grandchildren, Makiah McCoy, Michael McCoy, Meah McCoy, Antony Dawn, Teresa Dawn, Averi Dawn and Gaven Dawn; two sisters-in-law, Sue Kershner of Amoret, Missouri and Kay Wells and husband Kelley of Butler, Missouri; and numerous nephews, nieces and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Ronald Kershner.
Butler Fire Department Search and Rescue Training

On
Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9, the Butler Fire Department hosted
Outdoor Search and Rescue training. The 12-hour class was a no fee class from
the University of Missouri Fire and Rescue Training Institute. Instructor for
the class was Jon Trent from the Nixa Fire Department.
The
course was designed to build skills related to organizing and implementing a
search and rescue for missing persons in an outdoor setting.
Personnel
were in the classroom Friday evening and part of Saturday morning, where an
overview of the aspects of the search operation was discussed. The class then
went to the Ash Grove property west of Butler for practical exercises, where 3
mock search and rescue missions were conducted.
Over
20 personnel participated from Adrian Fire Department, Amsterdam Fire
Department, Bates County Sheriff's Posse, Butler Fire Department, Rich Hill
Fire Department, and Rockville fire Department.
