The Butler Public Library will celebrate, "National Library Week" April 14th - 20th by granting amnesty on overdue books. Please return your overdue books! Drop them in the book drop, outside of the building. The Butler Public Library is located at 100 West Atkinson Street in Butler.

BUTLER ALUMNI DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR 5K RUN/WALK


This year marks the 126th anniversary of the Butler High School Alumni Association. To commemorate this celebration, a full day of activities has been planned for Saturday, May 25, 2013.  
 
The 2nd Annual BHS Alumni 5k Run/Walk:
Sign-ins for the 2nd Annual Butler High chool 5k Run/Walk will begin at 7:30 am at track facility adjacent to the football field on Nursery Street. The run/walk will begin at 8:00 am – rain or shine, and is open to anyone who wants to participate. Being a Butler High School graduate is not a requirement. Pre –registration is required in order to receive a T-shirt. All profit from this event will go to BHS Alumni Association. The deadline for registering is May 1, 2013. See registration form enclosed.

 If you do not wish to participate in the Alumni run/walk, but would like to have a t-shirt, you may purchase one for $10.00 or $17.00 if the shirt must be mailed to cover the cost of postage and envelope (advance payment required).
 
Registration/sign-in is due by May 21st for luncheon registration. The doors open at 11:30am on May 25th with the luncheon beginning promptly at 12:30pm, and will be BBQ Brisket/Ham sandwiches, potato salad, BBQ Beans, Chips, and drink! You are invited to bring a guest or family member. The cost of Butler High School Alumni luncheon will be $10.00 per person and the closing date for luncheon reservations is May 21, 2013. A reservation form is attached or you can call Esther Hopcroft, at 660-679-3227. Please be sure to leave a message with your phone number if no answer. Reservations are not necessary, but an additional $2.00 per meal will be charged upon availability.

Butler R-V Board of Education April Regular Board Meeting Summary


The election results from the April election were approved by the board. They were as follows: Brad Stephens 412, Jarret Wheatley 343, and Bill Radford 287.

Board members Bryan Tippie, Brad Stephens and Jarret Wheatley were sworn in.
The held their reorganization, their positions were as follows:

President-Bryan Tippie
Vice-President-Brad Stephens
Secretary- Larry Anderson
Treasurer-Phillis Duda

New Business:
Superintendent Alan Stauffacher reported to the board that the same health insurance plan that the employees have this year took a 48% increase. He also reported that the district could blend plans with an HSA/HRA and employees would not see a dramatic decrease in their coverage. The HRA option would allow the district to pool money to lower the employee’s deductible to its present levels.

The board approved the occupational therapy and physical therapy contracts for the 2013-14 school year. The contracts were awarded to Karen Claypool and Child’s Play Therapy

The board approved a bleacher repair bid for BR Bleachers in the amount of $8700.
The board reached consensus to go forward in purchasing a new lawn mower and trading in a John Deere tractor that is being stored at the city’s spec. building.

The board approved policies DJF-AP1, EBBA-AP, FEF-AP1, JCB-AP, JHCD-AP, JHCF-AP, JO-AP, KK-AP, and removed IGC-AP.

Closed Session:
The board accepted the resignations of Jennifer Body, Angie Wiley, and Wendy Seward.
The board hired Nadja Gardner-special education, Elisa Orr- elementary teacher, and Lee Ann Kershner- high school librarian.

The board approved classified personnel.




Butler Optimist Club Students of the Month

The Butler Optimist Club would like to recognize two Butler R-V students for their outstanding academic achievements and character. The two students were selected by the staff at Butler R-V. Each student receives a certificate of honor and a $20 gift card to Sonic donated by Miles Umstattd of Sonic in Butler. Morgan Lamb and Bethany Davis received the Butler JH Optimist Student of the Month. Morgan is the daughter of Jason and Amber Roberts and William Lamb. Bethany Davis is the daughter of Brad and Jacquelin Davis.
