Weather Update: Drought Like Conditions

Kansas has been plagued with an extensive drought for a year now. However, areas from Manhattan to Kansas City have seen multiple rounds of rain over the past few months which have mostly killed the drought for northeast Kansas and areas near the MO state line. This can be seen in the graph below which shows that the percentage of Kansas in drought has been steadily decreasing since April. While the spring of 2013 started with 100% of the state in severe drought or worse, this number has now been reduced to 58%.

Unfortunately much of this activity has bypassed parts of the state further west which still remain in extreme to exceptional drought. The upcoming months do not look favorable for much drought relief for these areas.
